Oil system advice for V8 swap

    Evening all,

I'm part way through my V8 swap into my coupe and really could do with some advice regarding oil circuits.
As part of the swap I've had to ditch the water fed oil cooler from the AHC lump so I need run a remote cooler and filter set up. I've got the 034 flange that bolts on to where the old cooler used to sit so I have an inlet and outlet port from the block.

Can I just run a straight circuit, block>filter>cooler>block or should I be using an oilstat to only send it to the cooler once up to temp?

When I ditched the water/oil cooler I also lost the oil pressure switch so I need find somewhere to connect one of those. I would also like to keep the oil pressure and temp aux gauges so need to factor in where to place those senders too. Am I correct to assume it doesn't particularly mater where in the circuit I put the pressure switch and pressure sender?
Where would it be best to have the temp sender, measuring the oil temp coming out of the engine or once it's been through the cooler and on it's way back in?

Finally, What size of cooler should I be looking for?

The car won't be raced, tracked etc so not looking for an elaborate set up just a safe, reliable solution.

I literally have no experience of this side of things so any advice will be gratefully received!!

    Thanks Alan

You should definitely have some type of oil thermostat on you oil system. These are some pictures of mine. I don't remember the names of the stuff I used as it has been too many years since the install, but it will give you an idea. The cooler is mounted right behind the right lower vent on my bumper. Of course, my bumper is a little larger than yours.

They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

That's great, thanks for posting the pictures!!

Can you remember if you drilled and tapped the holes for the sensors yourself or did the thermostat housing come with them?

I agree you need a stat. Moral sell sandwich plates with them built in, not expensive. IIRC they also have some tapped for sensors.
Just as an aside, it's bad practice to install oil coolers "upside down" like that as they often cannot bleed properly so the top half is filled with air and doesn't do anything

I kind of hoped they did a plate with a stat and provision for senders but doesn't look like they do, I can have one or the other but not both on one plate.
I've found a filter head that has inlet and outlet ports on both sides so you can choose which side you use when plumbing in which could be handy. I'm hoping I could use the spare ports on the other side for the senders, I'll just need to buy or make adapters to take them down to M10.

          I'm thinking this,

Think these will serve my purposes?

            Drilled and tapped.

I think this one look good. Combo thermostat and filter. You couldn't tap the housing, but could use a short pipe and tap the pipe for sensors.

Patented remote oil filter mount features a built-in oil cooler thermostat to save both space and cost. Internal thermostat ensures engine oil reaches safe operating temperatures quickly and prevents over-cooling. Inlet/outlet ports in standard -10AN O-ring boss threads. Optional fittings are available to accommodate -6AN, -8AN, -10AN and -12AN lines, or 3/8" and 1/2" hose. Compatible with M20x1.50, M22x1.50, 13/16"-16, and 3/4"-16 filter threads (filter thread adapter screw sold separately). Compatible with filters with gaskets up to 3.55" in outer diameter. This unit must be plumbed to an oil cooler. See part number ENV-140 or ENV-142 if not using an oil cooler. Lifetime Warranty. Made in USA.
