    radiator resevoir cracked

ok when you said these cars were high maintenance you wern´t bloody kidding.

I have a crack in the top of the radiator resevior next to the bolt on the left it looks like some clever git has overtighted the bolt and started a split which has gotten to big to ignore now.
When i bought the car i noticed a very small leak from the side of the bolt but the crack is now 5cm big and needing immediate attention.

now having to top up coolant every other day....

Got a quote from the local radiator repair place 156€ = 110 quid roughly but the guy said that if he cant repair then 220€ for new one plus 96€ labour and he needs the car 2 days

Any ideas what the best course of action is with a problem like this (repair/new/diy)?

    thanks all

    You could do it yourself?

Otherwise it's money well spent. Job like this is not difficult, just time consuming.

Is it the crack where the bled screw goes in?

My advice if you dont want to buy a new rad is to by a product called JB Weld and appply it too the cracks on the outside.

It wont look pretty but by heck will it do the job without having to buy a new rad.

I think he is talking about the plastic reservoir not the rad Jamo. If it is the clear plastic reservoir, I would source a second hand one or a new one and fit it yourself. You could probably clean up a second hand one so that it looked nearly new anyway.

I would not have thought it is a difficult job, you should not even have to drain the system down as this is at the highest part...

Get a new main rad. You don't want that going and you losing the head gasket now, that would be really expensive...

You can find it on the net. It's a plastic welder, you mix it and it welds plastic together.

                  Very good stuff.

It will keep you going until you want to replace the rad.
