    Water Temperature Sensor

    HI guyz !

Just bought a replacement water temp. sensor and the Audi d/ship said that it is the correct part BUT it only has three leads when the faulty one has 4, the new one is IMHO lacking the + lead. The guy at the d/ship said that it has to be modified but the **** won't say how, wants me to book the car in so that they can do it !!!

    Help !

Many thanx in advance for responses

Hi Mate! Yeah it is correct. Audi changed it to a 3 wire. The fourth wire was a 12v supply to the sensor but the new ones didn't need there own power supply. I'm pretty sure that they're a straight swap, with no modifying required. Also check the pins in the plug as mine were badly corroded which was actually causing my fault! There's a write up on this at www.sjmautotechnik.com

Once again a quality main stealer partsman If in doubt come see your dad

As above the three pin is the new version. It is a straight swap for the four pin version. The old version had separate +VE inputs. The new version only has the one hence it's only three pin.

yep and enjoy changing it - its a biiiiatch at least on a 3b due to the space to swing a spanner or something similar in there.....
