    Front halfshaft length??

Anyone know if the front halfshafts on the ABY S2 are different lengths or if they are the same?

They differ in length. Its approx. 5 cm shorter then a 3B halfshaft. The rear part is the same length.

The halfshafts Eli (correct me if I'm wrong Eli) is talking about are the drive axles from the transmission to the wheels, and from the rear diff to the wheels. Front halfshafts would be the two front drive axles.

Correct, I just got an email from a friend that says one is 2cm longer than the other. I bought a set from Flex a while back but they seem to be the same length and when I install them to the 6 speed one is to long , now what? Can I have one shortened and it still be strong enough?

                  6-speed Front Half Shafts

                  Hi Elijah,
I got this reply from Billzcat when I asked on the motorgeek forum about installing the 6-speed trans in place of a 5-speed.

                  --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

                  Howdy Chris!

I've done the conversion on my CQ. Here's what I did:

*RS2 shift linkage, REQUIRED - got it from www.totsteile.ch
*RS2 transmission mount brackets - either buy these or fabricate them. If you buy them, you need a 28mm spacer under the driver's side bracket, and I have some spacers left over from my 6-speed selling days and you are welcome to have one for free. Another alternative is to use the RS2 mount brackets and a B4 subframe, no spacers required.
*Center driveshaft - get a used one from a 4kq or Ur-Q - perfect fit
*Halfshafts - I got a pair S2 5-speed shafts for €40 (rather than €250 each for RS2 shafts). The driver's side S2 shaft goes on the passenger side. Then, the driver's side you need to get creative. Take the S2 inner CV joint and the CQ outer CV joint, and put them on the driver's side halfshaft from a 90 FWD 5-speed 10v. Perfect fit.

Wow, I guess there are many ways to do it. I was told that the ABY S2 front halfshafts (axles) would be a direct bolt on but the one on the passinger side is to long. Anyone know if the Coupe passinger side halfshaft can fit the S2 inner CV joint? Maybe this would work.
