    Important Fuel Message

Just had this e-mail arrive in my mail box seemes like an effective idea what does everyone think? Could it work?

    Petrol Revolution

See what you think and pass it on if you agree with it..
We are hitting 95p a litre in some areas now, soon we will be faced with
    paying £1 a litre.
This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy petrol on a certain day"
campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just
laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves
by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it
    was a problem for them.

BUT, whoever thought of this idea has come up with a plan that can
really work. Please read it and join in! Now that the oil companies and
the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is
CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control
the marketplace not sellers. With the price of petrol going up more each
day, we consumers need to take action.

The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we
hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their Petrol! And we can do
that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea:
For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY petrol from the two
biggest oil companies (which now are one), ESSO and BP. If they are not
selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they
reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to
have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol
buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't wimp out on me at this
point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions
of people!! I am sending this note to a lot of people. If each of you send
it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)... and those 300 send it to at
least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)... and so on, by the time the message
reaches the sixth generation of people> , we will have reached over THREE
MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to
ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it
goes one level further, you guessed it... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!!
Again, all you have to do is send this to 10 people.

That's all.(and not buy at ESSO/BP) How long would all that take? If
each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of
receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the
next 8days!!! I'll bet you didn't think you and I had that much potential,
did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to
you, please pass this message on.

PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE 69p a LITRE RANGE

It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your
petrol at Shell, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrison's Jet etc. i.e. boycott
    BP and Esso.

This is so old and im bored of reading it, it would never make any difference, what people seem to forget is that both of these companies are huge multinational companies, if a few people in the UK stopped buying there fuel, who cares!

Sales worldwide is why they make such stupidly high profits, not solely UK sales.

Im all for the fuel strikes, i can happily live without fuel for a few days if the result is the same as last time.... its taken 5 years for fuel to reach the same price they were at when the last fuel strike happened.

There has been some interesting stuff elsewhere tho, for instance, The US puts 7.5% tax on there fuel, but due to the sharp rise in fuel because of the crisis there (Fuel has now reaced a whopping 33p per litre) some states have now stopped charging that tax at all to keep the prices to a normal level!

Makes you think why they only charge 7.5% whereas we are charged 65%!!!

The reason tax is high is due to the fact that our fuel is taxed directly, where as other countries sucha as france and the US have more indirect taxes on their fuel,
however it has reached a stupid price now,
and that is the oil compmanies, i mean the tax hasnt risen that sharply.
(also US has large oil reserves itself and imports huge amounts barely tapping their own sources)

Where are you guys getting these tax percentages from?!! If my memory serves me correctly, about 3/4 of the price of our petrol is tax. That means 75% of the cost, not 75% tax. That equates to 300%

Some other people have quoted the figure slightly lower, 73% of the cost being tax - but that still amounts to petrol being taxed at 270% of it's true value.

Time we stopped being taken for a ride by people who are spending our money how they see fit... Remember, the entire House of Commons (in London) only amounts to 600-odd MPs (and several of those are members of opposition parties), but they're telling millions of us how to live our lives!

Don't let the theiving b@stard Gordon Brown fob you off!

This is much closer to the figure! But I have heard and been told by several people that is actually closer to 80% which does throw us over the 300% tax. It is ridiculous and im sick and tired of it.

Last time I was in florida, I was running a 7+ litre V10 van around for much less money than it would cost to run my Mini around!!

And dont get me started on gordon brown, I would love to poke his good eye out for all the trouble and money he is costing everyone, I've just had it with this current government. If it carries on I wont be in this country for much longer.

Yep, I've heard the 80% or 4/5 figure before and I decided to steer clear of it, but it certainly was true and may still be true.

That doesn't just take us through the 300% barrier, it actually takes us all the way up to 400%

(4x as much tax compared to actual cost, 4/5 tax compared to 1/5 actual cost)

Brown tells people he can't reduce the tax because he would have to take money away from other essential things - utter baloney but some people swallow it H,L and S.

Let's not forget, this government actually polled less votes than the main opposition alone, never mind all the other parties combined.

This next bit usually gets me shot down but I will say it again - Brown is a Scottish MP with a Scottish constituency, so he should not even have a say in the affairs of England - since devolution. He should be in the Scottish parliament running their affairs. How many English MPs do you think there are North of the border? Not surprisingly, the patriotic Scottish wouldn't countenance such a crazy idea! So, why does it happen in England?

This guy is fleecing us and sending money wherever he pleases! He has stolen nine billion pounds EVERY YEAR from pension funds to prop up his failed economic plans - and people are still stupid enough to think the economy is safe in his hands!!! Don't make me laugh...

Utter fcking ******!! UK residents are ruled and governed by a UK parliament.. simple. Scottish MP's are voted in the same as English MP's. Brown is NOT an MSP.. ie: member of the Scottish parliament (whic is a farce IMHO). Biggest lot of utter drivel I've read all week....

More fcking drivel. How many members of the cabinet's constituences are in England? And all who are not resident in England have to abide by the decisions they make.. This and all governments since unification in the 18th century. The fact that he's Scottish has absolutely fck all to do with anything... unless certain posters have a problem with Scottish people working in the cabinet?

Because the Scottish Parliament governs Scotland, whereas Westminster governs the United Kingdom, which when I last looked, consisted of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Therefore to have only English MPs in Westminster would be much, much worse than a mix of English, Scottish, Welsh and Irish.

You are right though that we wouldn't let any Englishman into the Scottish parliament, just as you wouldn't let a Scotsman into an English one. But the fact of the matter is that Westminster isn't English. Its British, and so as a Scot and a Britain, I reserve the right to vote for a Scot to enter Westminster to govern the Untied Kingdom.

If you are so concerned about different nationalities governing your country then fight for devolution in England. It would mean the end for Great Britain, but that would be Englands loss.
