Sorry, not trying to offend Scottish members of anything - least of all this forum! Don't assume that I haven't got good friends from Scotland, or that I don't feel grateful for the help and advice I receive from Scottish members - I do.
But I have to disagree - the principle of devolution is for home rule, and that was the intention all along. If not, Scotland would have an assembly, as per Wales. Scotland has plenty of rules that are different from those of the remainder of mainland UK, and is entirely justified in having it's own parliament for a lot of reasons.
Please do not try the race card on me - I work for a company that has, over the years, employed people from various nations (including all of the UK nations, China, Japan, Germany, Spain, Italy, US, Canada, Republic of Ireland, and a host of others too numerous to continue to list). These people have all been my friends and many continue to be so (others have merely moved on).
As for devolution for England - no! I didn't want devolution of anything. I thought this was meant to be a UNITED Kingdom?
The nationality of the MP isn't being questioned, what was that meant to mean? Tony Blair isn't English either but that doesn't mean I don't accept his position in Westminster. The same goes for all politicians who were elected by the present system and the people of the electorate. At one time, one of my local candidates was from NZ and I didn't object to that, why should I? I think some people have taken my comments about the consitutional system to be racist, which is rather tiresome and entirely wrong.
Anyway I would rather debate how we can get petrol to be cheaper, not how to change the way a nation, or group of nations, is governed. That's what this thread was started for and I think it's probably time to get back on topic...
