    HELP... thought i broke him

Hi, hopefully you can give me some advice.
Earlier tonight i went to give it some, so down goes the throttle more than ive been driving it. It almost cut out, think it was about 4000 revs. Then it went back to normal. But everytime i tried again after that, it give it some serious kangaroo jumps. My boyfriend then lifted the bonnet, just encase any leads had come off. All he done was wiggled the airflow meter plug.
After that it went past 5500 revs in 2nd with no probs turbo felt fine. Infact it took off better than it has before.

Could there be a problem, or has anyone else had this problem?

Dont want to break Jimmy, ive not had him a week yet

Hi Girlracer, welcome to the forum by the way. I would suggest cleaning the MAF ( Mass Airflow Sensor) with carb cleaner. It can't do a lot of harm and should only do good.

Sounds like the overboost protection kicking in. It may be that Airflow meter plug connection, they have been know to give probs. Its worthwhile getting hold of some Contact Cleaner/Enhancer and give that plug connections a good spraying and make sure its on fully.
Other than that you could check/clean all connections, especially the Waste Gate Frequency Valve (WGFV) connection. And check for boost leaks (another favourite syndrome!)..........

will have a go, but will probably take him to a garage.

I aint got a manual or a handbook for the him.
As the 4 buttons on the dash have me confused, as pressed on the other day & it flashed up a warning of 45kmh, but fiddled again & now its stopped

              Overboost protection.
Check the wastegate hoses for leaks. If they're fine replace the N75 (wgfv). Forum search tells you what that is.
If that doesn't help the wg diaphragm is leaking.

I wouldnt be so kean to run to a garage with it, most problems arent that difficult to solve and you will find everything you could need to know on here as most of us have been there done that on a lot of issues, so a guide wouldnt be difficult, plus, as you may have already noticed, everyone on here is very helpful!

Intercooler O ring. Had oveboost protection cut in on mine for about 2 months before I finally took it off and found that half of it was missing from where some numpty had re-fitted the IC. Well worth modifying whether it's knackered or not.

Cleaning the MAF is also a top plan.

Other problems I encountered were corrosion on the inlet to the IC causing a small leak and somr absolutely knackered small diameter vacuum hose that had split.

Ypu won't find a manual for the S2 very easily. Just find an experienced S2 owner and they'll diagnose and fix problems for a fraction of the price of a garage or so-called specialist. These cars are not easy to fix and you need to have a real understanding of what's going on under the bonnet (or lots of guts) to get stuck in and fix one.

Hope you fix the white beast soon.

With regard to fuel. In my experience the overboost protection (what you experienced) does not cut in when you switch from 98 to 95 RON fuel. The turbo boosts to the same pressure but the timing retards off due to the knock sensors in order to reduce detonation. This happened recently when my old man put Tesco 95 unleaded in it after I had told him eleventy billion and one times that it should only be run on Optimax. Cost me a day in boost leak hunting before he owned up. GOOD JOB OLD MAN!

I took the guts route with my Halfords tool kit. Payed off quire nicely in the end as mine is now sorted. Unfortunately I don't know many members near Stoke but am sure that if you ask then somone will come to your rescue. There seem to be several members in Manchester and Sheffield to name but a few places. Much closer than sunny Brissol and the language barrier will be less of an issue. Ooooh Arrr (Tractor) and all that!
