We can sort it but, it would have to be next week, and it would have to involve lagers for non-driving crew memebers, unles you fancy a drive up to Sheffield and then it's not a problem.

I'd check a few things first...

like a loose hose clamp on a boost hose ( even better, do a pressure test on the boost track) I would also check the ECU codes, and run an output test to check things like the wastegate frequency valve.....

The MAF could be the cause, but could also through an ECU code - if the MAF wire is dirty, somethings a miss, like an over oiled air filter ( K&N?) The MAF is supposed to heat the "hot wire" during shutdown to burn off any residue.....

Look for the simple stuff first......

The 4 buttons work as follows

1 - Press it when your doing a certain speed and the next time you go over that speed it will flash a warning at you. I had mine set at 99, but I regularly ignored it. :mischeif:

        2 - Clock adjustment

        3 - Trip meter

4 - manual adjustment for the fuel gauge

I hope this is correct. Its been almost a year since my S2 went bye-bye

This is almost certainly an air leak... or a bad MAF - which causes the fuel pump to cutoff at 4000rpm - preventing potential engine damage. Its a normal Bosch Motronic failsafe thing.

Whilst it can be tiresome to locate the root source of the air leak - especially for S2 newbies or those with limited mechanical experience.

The FIRST thing to do is to remove the two fuses in the fuse box couples together with the red plastic clip labelled 'MOTOR'.

Do this with the engine off and leave the fuses out for a minute or two. This resets the ECU and forces it to forget any stored fault conditions. Then refit the fuses and go for a drive.

After the car is warmed up you can try some full throttle tests again - if you immediately get the problem then obviously the problem is current. If it doesn't happen soon after the reset then you *may* have an intermittent problem - which almost certainly points at an electrical fault ie MAF or WGFV.

You could try a MAF and/or WGFV swap with another members car to see if that resolves the issue. The MAF is very expensive and you don't wanna buy one unless you need to.

Other top candidates for a leak are as follows -

TBV - Throttle Bypass Valve - almost certainly rubbing against bodywork - cheap
WG - Leaking diaphragm less likely than above but not unheard of
Turbo Hoses - Any of these could be a leak - or just a loss/broken clamp
Intercooler O-ring - Very likely candidate for an air leak
Narrow guage hoses - these old braided things can crumble and cause leaks

Beyond that you are into complicated stuff like the PCV system but don't worry about that until the basics have been checked. Try and find a local member with a compressor, a leak test kit and some experience.

Good luck and don't lose heart - air leaks are the bane of the S2 if not properly sorted.

If its a 3B with original hoses - I'll bet its the dopey pressure pipe coupler hose - the straight section. These get flexed a lot over time and invariably crack.

LOL I knew that was coming. Here's Sidspud's previous thread.

What I want to know is, how did you get a range of 405 miles? Did the Slipperwagon have an extra fuel tank on board?

had my 3B to show 770 km last week, corrosponds to 478,5 english miles i think.

Just filled up the tank, did 11.2 km/l or 8.9 l/100km on a full tank, pretty cool that´s possible , but not very entertaining though
