Hi everybody
, i am back speaking from the land down under. I was 14 weeks without the Audi as she got shipped over and i have only drove her twice. Once from the removal company yard where it came out of the container (thankfully with no damage) to home, and once for its inspection about 25 miles away which it failed and they still have not issued a permit for me to drive it. The inspection was intense- the place is huge and police run
, 3 men (2 young, 1 old ****) the lads done a 50 minute inspection, each with their own list of things to check, they checked every visable nut and bolt under the car for tightness, and every possible thing you could think of checking, and the 2 young ones were sound, had a bit of banter and a chat and they were normal people. The old bloke in his chief inspector uniform came over and i said "good afternoon" in a friendly sort of way to which he glared at me , then he said " What car is this?" i said audi S2 and he then said " this was never sold in OZ so it cant be given a regestration." I said it must be, they sold 25 in oz and there is about 6 left" and he grumbled that it isnt in his book and he pointed out there is the S3, S4, and S6 but no S2 so it cant have done so i asked to see his book and then found the car in 10 seconds under Audi 80 model. He slamed the book turned his back looked at the engine for 5 seconds and said he cannot see the engine number and failed it. It Failed on 5 things, a cracked Brake disc which was fine in the UK , my goodrich hoses- coz theyre not Australian safety mark stamped theyre not allowed, but i can have some el-cheapo rubber ones made up for the test then put the stainless ones back on after the test as that is the only test it should ever have ( No MOT in SA ), then it has to have child safety anchors mounted in the boot somewhere, that shouldnt be too bad, the bloke couldnt find the engine number and i couldnt remember where they are (on the head ???how mad it that, every other car i have worked on has had them on the block). Ant the last one which is the ball ache is that the down pipe is bent, it has been bent for years but never cause me a problem, but the cats sit at 89mm and they have to be 100mm or over----which remindes me, have you any photos of the correct position of the cats in relation to their gearbox mount- on mine the rubber elbow is directly below the gearbox-outstreatched vertically down if the cats move back they swing up to where i presume they are supposed to be. But my plan is to manufacture an extension pipe for a burning gun heating nozzle, the pipe will be capped off and the pipe radially drilled around the capped end. Then i will cut a hole in the elbow of the down pipe at the bottom and take out the section from the waste gate (Corrugated Bit) and undo the exhaust after the cats, light my pipe, and insert it to the point i need to bend the downpipe at, let it heat that bit up cherry red and move the pipe to where it needs to be to give me the clearance it should have--what do you think?? seems good, my only worry is heat to the turbo but it wont be close to the turbo and the waste gate will be disconnected, it should be alright considering exhaust temperatures and the amount of metal it would have to heat up to cause damage. It was mad driving her again and on ozzie roads, everybody glared and looked as the closest one is about 1000 miles away and no body has seen one.
We have not had a summer since 2004 as we came out here in UK spring to Arrive in their Autumn-Reason being i get a suntan in moonlight and burn on a rainy day. So by coming out in Autumn i can aclimatise. Now the weather is warming up as we have just gone a few weeks ago into spring and it has been 25 on Friday, 26 on Saturday, 27 yesterday and supposedly 27 today, its crystal clear and sunny outside. Were renting a house over here as in the UK i was told in SA i could get 25 dollard/hr on a daft Mon-Fri Job but getting here and all what is available localy is 20 dollars an hour. I have been offered quite a few jobs away, and were possibly going to move to Mackay where i have family friends who can get me a job earning 65 dollars/hr working for the mining companies overhauling the mining gear. But we have also come to the conclusion were never going to become millionaires working for someone else and we are enroling for colledge to start our own business. (We just like a challenge
).
The job i have now is mind numbingly easy, i repair, install, overhaul and service Hydraulic tailgates on trucks, docking levelers, wheelchair hoists, and freight elavators. The ozzies i work with think its big complex hydraulics, i just laugh at the little piddly kits they use. Our rented house is class, its massive with a nice view over the sea. Kendra is reveling in the nice weather, and we spend quite alot of time just getting plastered on the cheap booze over here. I cannot believe how many ozzies drink drive, you pull into the fuel station next to a big jeepy thing with 5 ozzies in it with their fishing gear and every one of them including the driver is sat drinking BundyRum and Coke (sold in cans). I got Kendra a new toyota Echo (Yaris) as her job is in the middle of the city and a tiny car pisses over the big cars for city driving, you can practically tuck it away anywhere and there is still tonnes of room round it. As the S2 isnt on the road we had a holiday to go fishing at Coffin Bay near port Lincoln and had a great time, it was about a 7 hour drive and 800 Km away, on the way we raced an Ostrich along the road---Jaysus they can move, but we still won
.
The roads will trip UK people out a bit as there does not seem to be many rules followed, undertaking is the norm, and the police are miles ahead of the UK for underhanded techniques in catching speeders. Even down to the wheelie bin they put out on Bin day with a speed camera running inside of it--I **** you not
. My works van i got is due for a replacement at the end of October (whether it happens is a different matter) I call my van Bill (After Kill Bill
) and i have killed it twice, i burnt out the ignition with stupidly high revs and burnt the clutch out- On My defense the van with payload is supposed to be no more than 2700kg and it is more like 3100kg, it has many handling characteristics similar to the QE2 and the wooden brakes (Cooked Twice
) are not up to the job. But the van is chock full of tools and the uses at home are quite good. (Oxy acetylene).
Anyways its sunny outside, and i am off out for a walk and to go shopping. need fuel so have to endure 60p/litre---it was 38p/litre when we got here
.
Take care will see you all soon

- It amazes me that they can be so strict with the inspection and speeding, yet drink driving is the norm...

They wont be saying that when its munching V8's. My boss has got a commodore V8 SS with a big exhaust, he nailed it for me and i must say i'm not impressed-for such a big engine and car they make more noise than movement.
