160+ mph S2 Avant

Had some fun yesterday with my older step brother on his holidays. We were making a 70 mile round trip using the local toll roads which i never normally use for day to day trips.
Now my stepbrother has heard of the S2 of course but had no idea about the extent of its performance. Im running a stock S2 avant (as far as i know ) I get onto the toll road into 6th gear and before i know it i am doing 260+ kmph there are only 1 or 2 other cars on the way there and a few long bends it only feels like i am going 100mph. My stepbrother is amazed at the performance of a ten year old car. He asks me how fast we are going and i am trying to work it out but miscalculate quite abit and say about 140mph.

On the return journey i decide i am going to take it bit more leisurely that is until i get a bright yellow Mini cooper S so close to my rear end that im in danger of getting the Mini badge embossed into my rear bumper. so much for leisurely pace, when i put a good 300mtrs between me and the Mini i think well that will do for now and drop the pace again. But no the Mini is back again trying to trade paint with me, so this time i keep my foot down all the way to my exit by which time there´s no Mini to be seen at all (and i could see a good way behind me).
I still cannot get over how amazed my stepbrother was about the S2 i think he may be a S2 convert soon.

I played with a Porchse 996 Carrera the other day and he was well pissed off I was stuck to his back bumper, I think he was expecting to drop the 12 year old Audi easily!

Well I have seen 160mph in my stock S2 Coupe once but that was downhill and on the original 16" AVUS 205's.

When I changed to my 19" rims, I measured the difference in rolling circumference of the new combo and found it to be approximately 8% different.

So to achieve the same speed as I was doing that night, I now have to see ~148mph on the speedo.

Well I've seen a tad over 140mph and the bitch might have done a bit more but I contend that on the flat, without a favourable wind, there is no way in hell a stock S2 can hit 160mph (257kph).

I've seen a smidge over 160mph on the clock, on a flat road (well, private track obviously), and I'm on 17's with 225/45's.

What was the stock S2 officially supposed to do?

I've seen over 170mph on (or off) the clock 6500rpm in top. Not in a stock S2 though.
My girlfriend's car is quicker than a stock S2.

I've seen anything between 146 and 154mph quoted.

IMHO, 146 is too low and 154 might be a touch high...for my poor old 170K miler!

Definitely not. But through the twisties.. maybe. My mates GSXR1000 will do 160 in the blink of a eye. So I can imagine what the ZX12 will do.

my car does that in the five speed as showen in the picture but i can reach more if no traffic was slowing me i even reached 253 km in the clock and it was still pulling but the road is to short , and it was a bit downhill and those in hot weather with 110-120 degree for the engine oil... any body know how much my speedo is right or false?

I had an indicated 163MPH (ish as only clocked to 160MPH) from my 2.8 Coupe and recently had an easy (i.e. not max'd out) 150MPH indicated from my stock S2.

Years ago, when my mate worked for Audi, we had an indicated 165MPH out of a 1 year old ABY S2, before we had to back off and the thing was still pulling. So I reckon a stock S2 in good condition should be able to hit 170MPH on the clock, which is prolly 155-160MPH true.

As for accuracy, last week on a toll road in France, whilst running at 170KPM, my GPS was showing me at around 161KPM, which agrees with my tests in previous Audis in that the VDO gauges are reasonably accurate, compared with cr@p like Fords and GM's.

by the way this a4 is front wheel drive so it should pull faster then quattro isnt?
