Can all ye owners of very early S2 Avants please PM me with their chassis (VIN) numbers?

The purpose is to try and correlate the time window these cars were built. I'll check this on the old family album and post results (not actual VINs) ASAP.

The spec of a very early S2 Avant is such that it will likely be registered as a J, K or L plate (in the UK) being manufactured in Audi's 1993 model year.

It has the ABY engine and 6-speed gearbox, but has the old style 5-spoke wheels and non ellipsoidal headlights.

I know a number of these came to the UK and would just like to nail down when they were built.

Having the engine number would help correlate things greatly.

Furthermore I am interested to know if these cars have the factory fitted ABS cancel switch above the radio. I drove one of these once but can't remember this detail !

Hi!,
I've dug out an old copy of Audi Driver(Jan 03).
According to this article the Avant was not introduced until the end of 92. They feature a white avant, non eplis, no roof rails and the early five spokes.(K967 EVV).
According to their info, sales in Uk started in Spring 93.
The chassis no info is a bit confusing. Apparently the code is 8C for the Avant:

I have an early avant, but it no longer has the 5-spokes or the original headlamps, having been swapped out for ellipsoids.

Oh yes I'd forgotten about the lack of roof rails on these early ones - Cheers Robin - I'd certainly expect all these to be on a 'P' - its consistent with manufacture late in 1992 for Audi's '93 model year.

I'm trying to narrow down the VIN number range.

ABYs should have a sticker on the camshaft cover giving the engine number. Certainly true for normal ABYs - not 100% on these early animals.

Don't expect an engine number below 1000 (as that denotes pre-production runs).

The engine number will be in the log book if all else fails.

I have an ABY head and I'm assuming that the engine number is the numerials after the ABY bit. It is stamped on a boss towards the front of the engine on the exhaust side.

I'll have a look Rob. Paul, there's definitely a sticker on the top of the cam cover, will check it out, although I have the number here in the log book.

No abs switch.
