    My Fuel usage!!!

Hi, ive done a search on mpg, so know the average what i should get (hopefully)
Anyway, i do approx 11 miles a day, but get stuck in heavy traffic.
On tickover the car reads 7mpg, ive not floored it.
Could there be something wrong if im always givin Jimmy a drink.
Its always reading 200mpg, then goes to 3 dashes (blank)
My fuel guage seems to go down really quick. Im talking puttin in £30 at time, & fill up again when it goes on the top of the red, as dont want to take the chance of runnin out.
Could the fuel sender be dodgy,
or shall i drive in fluffy slippers instead of boots

this isnt a car for heavy traffic - it will suck petrol through on a crawl, expect something like 330 - 350 miles a tank if you are being good, sub 100 if you are ragging it

        I make that 9.08 mph.

You should have bought a push-bike!

        That'd be free.

£30 gets you about 7.5 gallons. In my car around town, that'd get me ~130 miles worth.

        You're getting 90 miles worth...

Back off the loud pedal girl!

Used to do about that distance to and from work, plus a little running around in the evenings (gotta go buy food occasionally). Didn't get quite that stuck in traffic, but could make a tank last 4 weeks if there weren't any major trips (etc).

Only if they go with the outfit and the car.

              Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

                  That's a lot of fuel!
Do you know when/if the Lambda probe was last changed? (also called Oxygen Sensor).
They should be changed every 60K miles really (£50 odd). Affect the economy quite a lot when they are getting on a bit (not to mention performance).

If you reckon it does need doing there was a thread about it not that long ago, with pics too.

will do a search on it, but dont think i will fiddle about mesell.

But i thought it was alot of fuel, unless the sender is dodgy.
Otherwise maybe have to be naughty & run it out & shout on RAC.
                    Then i will know.
Need to find out by next weekend, :mischeif:

only prob with that is that there will no doubt be a load of crap in the bottom of the tank, dragging that through will clog an injector etc.....

I'd check the lambda, it can make a hell of a difference in the running of the car and is a pretty easy change. if you have a standard airbox, you'll probably need to get it out to give you the space or find an open/slotted deep socket to deal with the wires coming off the top.

Its pure torture for an S2 to be stuck in grinding traffic. They suck juice. Suggest you get the bus unless you really like wasting money on petrol - which the chancellor gets most of anyway !

To minimise the pain I strongly suggest you replace your lambda probe unless you know its a fresh one in there already.

Also - get your trip computer onto the average MPG setting.... The figures you are quoting sound like instantaneous ones to me.

I mentioned the instant settings before!!!

The mpg will be really low when the car is standing still - after all, it's using fuel and doing no miles whatsoever! Meanwhile, if you lift off the loud pedal when going at a reasonable speed, the value shoots upwards because the car is suddenly doing a lot of distance in return for hardly any fuel used!

Switch the setting with the buttons on the end of the RH stalk, the average is less sobering and the range is more useful.

If it's any consolation, I spend £12 per day running The Kitten to work and back!

(That was before the price rises...)
