I remember watching the real thing (along with M3s, Mustangs and of course V8 quattros) at Donington back in 1991, and very nice it was too! The standard road version was all looks, apparently slower than factory Sapphire Cosworth - the Merc looks like it should be much faster!!!

'Sigh'. Those were the days of proper Touring cars, unlike today. Races just end up looking like a speeded up supermarket run these days!

SWEET! The EvoIII had 235bhp so would be slower than a turbocharged Saph Cosworth. Different class to the Dagenham dustbin though.

Biela won both races from Soper in an M3 back in the 1991 ITR race (basically DTM on tour). That was the boring statistic at the end of two excellent races.

The sight of all the rear drive cars (there were Omegas as well, BTW) backing into (and kicking up gravel when leaving) Redgate was truly awesome, not to mention the way they tackled Craner! Those cars were hairy but still retained a lot of tinwork, and were nothing like as heavily developed as the FIA Class 1 cars that came a few years later.

The ITR/DTM are still the only touring cars I have ever watched and I resolutely avoid the current crop of dull (IMHO) BTCC races.

Here, and absolutely...............here. The DTM/ITR serie was touring cars at they're absolute best.....Sonax Tabac, Jagarmiester and D2 liveries just added to the spectacle…..I turned up to watch the Audi V8’s (win) and at the end of the first race, was so impressed I’d have bought a V8, M3 or Merc Evo (I’ll fall short of the bright Orange Omega!!).
