    socket set advice

can anyone recommend a good web-site for a decent 3/8" drive socket set. I won't be using it full-time, but would like a reasonable quality and am looking to pay up to 100 quid.

After having my finger's burnt buying a "Professional" set from Machine Mart, which looked and felt like a cheap chinese sunday-market special (cost me 48 quid plus 9 quid for sending it back), I've decided to buy on recommendation rather than put trust in some dodgy brochure descriptions.

    Thanks

I know people may scoff at the slightest mention of halfords, but I recently got a good 1/2 inch drive set from them.
Their own make and came with lifetime warranty (break it and they replace it) and better than some of the snapon (snap-off more like) gear I've got.
    Was under £100 too.

Agree with Jas on the Halfords set. Mine is brilliant. Paid just short of 90quid i think. The only thing i dont like about the set is the case they come in! Other than that they're top notch. (look good too )

Granted, the Halfords stuff is quite good. I think their Profesional range was actually made by Sykes Pickavant which is good stuff. It they put a lifetime on the stuff, it usually is decent.

The one I got, just shy of £100, IIRC i paid £89.

          Here it is.

The only thing that I found, was that there was no adapter in the kit to use a socket on the screwdriver . Had to buy a seperate one.

              Yep,
Have to agree with everyone else on Halfords. Been using a Halfords professional set for 2.5 years, broke a 3/8th extension (seriously abused!) and they replaced it on the spot, no quibble. You can't argue with that.

Another vote for Halfords here. I've got both 1/2" and 3/8" & 1/4" sets and I've had no problems with them at all. Even with the abuse and lack of care I give them.

Another vote for Halfrauds own professional brand tools here. I give it some serious grief sometimes and it seems to be better than the Snap-Off stuff. I had a ratchet go ages ago and they they just replaced it no question.

**** me, Anther vote for Halfords from me!

I bought th £99 Proffessional set which has 1/4 3/8 and 1/2" drive. It also includes stuff like Torx drives etc which are essential on our German cars. As already stated lifetime warranty too.

                    Check it out!

                          Wow !!

Looks like a unanimous vote for Halfords.

Sounds good to me. Also there's always a Halford's close-by. It's got to be better than the internet gamble.

                          Cheers

Weeelll. Most of my kit is Snap-On, love it, some real quality. Veeerrryyyy expensive for "occassional use" - so, bought Halfords Professional for the tools i only use occasionally and you can't go far wrong with it. As Mark has pointed out, Sykes Pickavant do indeed supply these tools to Halfords and they stand by the warranty. I wouldn't hesitate in recommending their kit, the boxes they come in ARE crap though. But then, i haven't undone a nut with a plastic box yet!

Have to agree about the boxes. I've lost count of the times I've had to crawl around picking up sockets when the clip has popped open while I'm carrying it
