Oh yes? Perhaps you'd be good enough to explain to us und Audi AG why S2Central hosts zip and stuffit archives containing JPEG images of copyright schematic diagrams?

Cant say i like that post very much Nuvo sounds very ungrateful towards someone who has spent time and effort to making information available to the masses.

Jamo, I don't deny the value of the information content or the efforts made, It's the double standards and the pseudo respect for copyright I find difficult to comprehend.

I can just see myself going into my local audi dealership and asking if they could order me a workshop manual for the audi s2 range, " Sorry Sir we cant help you "
Then they look at you as if your some kind of nutcase.

I wish it was just £80-£90... You are having a laugh. Some stuff is good value but the schematics alone were approx 160 Euro *each* when I got them. I have two of those (more are required to cover all 3B aspects) plus the 3B, AAN, ABY, ADU engine mechanical and electrical manuals... Plus 01E gearbox manual, the B4 series bodywork manual, the HVAC manual and a bunch of other stuff. I'd hate to top up what it has all cost.

Oh alright - I have posted *some* very limited snippets of schematics on the 'net. So yes I'm guilty on that. Its one thing to post little things like that - its another entirely to rip the security of Audi's SPDF files then post entire manuals on the 'net.

Those snippets have been online for a long time and perhaps Audi have turned a blind eye to that - given the age of the car, its rarity meaning they don't see them in for service very often, but I'm not about to start blatently ripping off their copyrighted info.

If somebody else wants to do that then go right ahead - get an Erwin account and blow approx £300-£500 on all the S2 related info you can find (if you can find it). Then work out how to crack the SPDF security (oops thats not so hard) and then post them on the 'net for us all to see. See how long that takes you, and then wonder how on earth all of your efforts would be repaid... until Audi's net police force you to close down.

The biggest problem is Dave that there isn't ONE manual - the info is splayed all over the place. Only some of it is available in electronic format. The rest is in mega bound folders which you painfully have to apply paper change controls with updates etc...

Another issue is that *less* information is available in English. I believe there are some manuals available in German only now... Which Erwin won't let you see unless you have a German shipping address. Very frustrating...

I still you are being a little harsh mate. Paul is doing none this for personal gain. The only people that stand to gain from any of this is the other members.

I think there is more of a moral line to be towed here than anything. I am in no way a criminal, but I am quite happy to gather useful information in whatever form it comes in. It would be nice if we were able to obtain *some* information from Audi regarding their older cars that we are keeping on the road and still buying OEM parts for. However, It occurs to me there is almost nothing for the enthusiast freely easily or cheaply available from Audi and if Paul can provide some snippets then so be it.

                    Just my 0.02

Whether or not they have been in circulation for a long time doesn't some how relinquish copyrights, please respect it. It is my personal view that service literature of this type should be placed in the public domain once a vehicle or product is no longer in production. That is a matter for the copyright holder to decide not the general public. I

I too have a substantial catalogue of legal erWin documents and have no wish to circumvent the security or distribute them by any means, electronic or otherwise.

Well i have just downloaded some useful engine mechanical info off the erwin site, its got lots of exploded diagrams, torque figures and lots of other very useful info, but as said in previous threads there is no one document which contains everything you will need for the maintenace and repair on these engine so looks like ive got lots more info to obtain and lots more money to spend .

You're probably right, in summary I really take issue with double standards.
I applaud his efforts and can't argue how valuable this information can be. In fact I have a lot of respect for anyone that goes to the trouble of publishing a enthusiasts web site.

I think they are fantastic resources and have nothing but praise for them. In fact, I actually find them very inspiring and would love to produce one myself. I certainly plan to do that some day, my exacting standards are holding me up if anything.

Like you I have collected as much information as I can find over the years.

Exactly my point, I'm all for the dissementation of technical information and knowledge.
Just do so with respect to the owners copyright, that's all I'm asking.

I absolutely agree, in my previous post I suggest that service material should be released in the public domain once a vehicle is no longer in production. I think that is a fair suggestion. I could go further and suggest that Audi don't do nearly enough to cater for enthusiasts of the older cars.

Perhaps we could collectively approach Audi and make our feelings known. After all we are contributing to their good reputation by keeping these cars in running order aren't we? Perhaps we could create a poll or a think tank?
