    Whiteline has arrived

My RARB has arrived this week, and ive not been on the forum for a while so anyone who is waiting for theirs get onto DT and ask where it is.

Anyone got any advice on fitting it, such as fit it with wheels up then tighten then lower or lower then tighten?

    cheers

Fit it with the car on the ground at normal load and ride height. It's easier if you've got it up on a ramp, but it can be done with the car on the ground - that's how we managed to fit my bar at the Garage Meet back in Feb05.

Slumming it on our backs on the ground it took about 30mins to fit - we had a small problem with one of the supplied sub-frame brackets not being drilled quite correctly so the bolts didn't match up with the threads in the sub-frame, but a bit of work with a metal file sorted that out.

Did you get the adjustable bar or just the fixed one? Have you also got an RS2 FARB?
If it's the adjustable, I would suggest you start with it in the middle setting and see how you get on.

Maybe start it off on the lightest setting first then - that's the holes at the very end of the bar. Bringing it inwards shortens the arms and stiffens it. Did I get that the right way round?!

Doing the RS2 FARB is definitely worthwhile too - although I understand there are supply issues on that now too?

Hey Jamo, I ordered mine in early May and it arrived on Wednesday...fitted it Wednesday evening

s2_southwest: I used a lift (friend owns a garage) but he recommended doing it on the ramp lift, rather than the 4-poster, so that the car stayed on its wheels. Fitting is easy, but I have a few pointers for you to make it easier: -

                    1. Undo the 4 u-clamp bolts first, that way, you can pull the drop links backwards to get more room for a ratchet on the track-rod end nuts, as these are close to the lower wishbone.

                    2. Be VERY careful undoing the U-clamp bolts as they go into captive nuts on the rear subframe. These nuts are exposed, therefore the threads are rusty. Oil bother ends well then have a cuppa.

One of my captives snapped off the subframe and there is not enough room for a spanner in there, so I hacksawed off the bolt.

                    3. The track rod ends have a 17" spanner slot to stop them rotating.

                    4. Fit the new RARB to the track rods first, as when bolted up to the sub frame, there is less room for a socket and spanners make your arms ache

                    5. Use longer bolts of you can get them (my mates garage had some) as the new bar has a plate behind the U-clamp to space the larger bush off the subframe. This is my one critism of the Whiteline product - it should have been supplied with new bolts.

Hope this helps...mine makes a noticeable difference and it is only on the softest setting.

                    Cheers n

@Si - glad you've fitted it ok and are noticing a change in handling already. It definitely changes the handling balance. I'm still using the middle setting, haven't felt the need to experiment with the firmest setting for road driving.
