Drifting rocks! More cars need to be drifting round coombe imo. Go to the Rally day they do there and you'll see how brilliant it is. The Mcrae brothers put on a proper drifting show for everyone this year in their 'slightly modded' escorts . When it's done properly i don't care who's doing it. I'll watch it all day long.

You had a good effort until you broke it
Nice escort appreciation

Saw that Mcrae escy in Classic Ford... WOW! I love the mk.2 and have always wanted a cosworth engined RS2000 or Mexico (NA or Turbo if I was feeling slightly mad). The
crae on is a superb piece of engineering and I'll have to get off me **** and go and see it somewhere. Sideways is proper cool.

Just seen the pic of yours Bry. V.nice!
The old Rs 2000 is the all time king of 'tail out'. Would give anything to own one like Mcraes.
It's not mine, it's the first I found on the internet. Mine is plain without the front lights and stripes, and half leather recaros
Mk1 Escorts are the dogs, the guy we bopught the latest S2 from had one but he wouldn't sell it

All related to drifting I spose. Has anyone been to a Ford track day? Remember at Ford Fair 04, a Granada sliding round copse at some lunatic speed acompanied by the chirp of a DV where the guy was playing with it. Followed by a few cossies and a rwd mk.3 escy. That was very cool, drifting or no.

Tail-out Escorts and rally style 4 wheel drifting has nothing to do with Japanese style 'drifting' using mediocre Japanese tin boxes designed specifically to be unstable at speed. Worse though are the dimwits attracted to this farce. Never have I seen such a collection of chavs and low-level humans as I have seen at a drifting event. If people want to follow in chav footsteps, be my guest.
First off, what are 'chavs' and 'to**ers'? Sorry, im from the 'other' side of the pond!
I think you guys misuderstand the sport to begin with. Drifting is merely for show, not anything else. The thing about it is, 99% of the viewing public doesn't watch races to see who wins, they watch it to see wrecks and the 'show'. So drifting gives them an alternative where they get 100% show, and even a few wrecks. Why is this bad? Its another form of motorsport, and unfortunatly, a lot of big time drivers are switching over to it. Why not? It's cheaper than 'real' racing, a huge adrenaline rush, and its the 'fastest' growing form of motorsport in the world. Makes sense to me why its so big, and why there are so many fans.
Rallying for us 'other' people isn't available. We get one real rally here a year, Pikes Peak...which is usually considered a far cry from a real rally. Would I sell my left testicle to go to a real rally in Europe and stand on a bank no more than 5ft from passing cars? Damn straight! So what do we get...well we get a revised form of Lemans, the American LeMans Series, we get one F1 race, which if anyhting like this year sucked, and we get NASCAR...YEE HAW. Am I ashamed that we have NASCAR...rightly so. So when drifting became an option here in the states, people jumped on it like white on rice. Now there are almost as many viewers of the USD1GP as there are of the Daytona 500. Are all the drifters 17yro's with tin boxes...definantly not...in Japan many of the drifters are 30's plus, with some 40yro guys still doing it. In America a lot of the new hotshot drivers are doing it...more money, more publicity, and a lot safer.
I think you guys also don't understand 'drift' cars. They AREN'T infact deliberatly setup to handle bad. Most of what you get that picture from are Nissan Silvia's with cut springs, a big 6" exhaust, and a primer black car. What 'real' drift cars are are moreless identicle to a Grp. B rally car. They are built with elaborate cages, as per rally cars, higher ratio gear boxes and steering racks, as per rally cars. There engines are built as per rally cars, with real thought out parts, not just an entire parts catalog. The sway bars are adjustable inside the car, as per rally cars. The brakes are 4-6piston, 13-14" setups, as per rally cars, with aftermarket master cylinders and clutch cylinders, as per rally cars. Aerodynamics might be the side effect that they don't take after, as there body kits are for show, as they are graded on show. The big wings are a tradition in Japan, as there are many fast circuits in Japan where they actually become useful. Tires are no less than R-compounds, or very good quality street rubber. They aren't bald, they are brand new before an event. The suspension is setup very similar to a road car (grp. A), with shortened tripple adjustable dampers, with linear high rate springs. The cars don't loose balance with speed, infact they are designed to understeer. Very few drifters cars actually oversteer leaving a turn. Most all of them understeer as bad as the S2. The driver makes the back end slide out, in which he has to hold it. Have you ever been sideways at 100mph and held it? Its an adrenaline rush that you can't explain.
I am not trying to condone drifting, infact I am a circuit man myself...I like rally, F1, LeMans, etc...I do though have respect for all forms of motorsport, including Nascar and Drifting...different strokes for different folks.
has anyone also noticed that most chavs drive front wheel drive cars? nova/saxo/civic/escort/fiesta/ etc. be increadably difficult to drift a front wheel drive car,
few chavs drive RWD and if they do its usually short lived
just because chavs have fitted delta kits and ruined the words "body kit" does not mean that nobody else should fit a body kit - when you by a escort cosworth over an rs2000 (new shape) you get one with a body kit!!!
wes made some good point above, anyone gonna call him a nob?
The word "Chav" is now in the dictionary (as of this year). The definition in short is "applied to teenagers and young adults of working class or lower - middle class origin". If we go by this definition, then I'd say this applies to the vast majority of us.
Someone on here also made a statement, and I quote "I hate chavs as much as the next man". That is a very broad statement which just about covers all of us! It would appear most of us know a lot about cars, but nowhere near enough about other issues! How can you hate a group of people you have an incorrect perception / definition of?
You can't define a person by the car they drive, or their preference of dress / driving style. I'm sure most of us on here have driven other "Chav" cars before "progressing" to S2's or whatever other Audi we may drive today. When I was younger, I certainly couldn't afford an expensive car, so the best I was able to insure was a 1982 Ford Cortina, a 1979 Ford Fiesta, a 1985 Ford Sierra, a 1985 Toyota Celica, a Toyota Carina estate to name a few.
With those cars, I can only conclude I must have been a "Chav" and one of the most hated folk on the planet!
The morale is stereotyping for whatever reason isn't a good thing. I've said my piece, now I'm quite prepared to be shot down in flames.
