    clutch pedal feel.

Looks like my push rod on the master cylinder is wearing out or rather the central bush is collapsing ,any one got a spare and wot do i need to change .looked under dash and when you press pedal the rod kinks off its axis making it grind or click.

    Hey mate,

When I spoke to you at Castle Combe, did you see my clutch master cylinder that I was carrying around? I had just changed it for this very reason. My problem went from sticking to snapped (and therefore no clutch) within a few hundred miles, so I recommend changing it ASAP.

My rod bent about 30 degrees and rubbed on the edge of the cylinder causing the sticky pedal. The connector on the rod then flexed ubder the load and it is this that snapped, disconnecting the rod from the pedal (as the mechanic inspected it).

The Audi steeler I took it too (I was in France on holiday at the time) charged me €130 for the new master cylinder, plus new fluid and about 2 hours labour. Apparently the worst part is simply the lack of easy access....my mate owns an Audi specialist garage and reckons it is a biatch of a job.

Not really been of any help....sorry.

    Cheers n

I changed my master cylinder, its a piece of cake to do, i expected the worst and wondered what all the fuss was about!!

Its 2 bolts inside the car and a nut where it fixes to the pedal, then the brake line in the engine bay and thats it, access wasnt that hard really, i got a spanner on it about 45 degrees to the nut, so it was enough to undo the brake line and do up again.

Inside the car, if you have some long allen keys with that spaded end on the long end so you can change the angle you are undoing the bolts at you will find it a piece of cake!

Took me about 1 hour max i guess to change.

Think i removed the black inlet pipe to get better access. I didnt have the standard airbox on the car at the time, so that may have helped with access, as it was in that direct i got the spanner on there i think.

VAGParts i think were the cheapest place to get one from

I am told that makes a big difference to the access on the engine bay side.

Yeh it does depending on where you are getting at, im pretty sure i had the spanner on the pipe nut pointing in that direction, it didnt get much of a turn on it, but got there in the end.

Hope you get it sorted tho... The main annoying thing i discovered when doing this is that the ABY MC is specific to the ABY, the 3B and every other Audi 80 is the same.... and also much cheaper!

BTDT! The clutch pedal linkage in mine was shot so I bodged it with a couple of plates and through bolts. Worked ok for a couple of weeks before I could change it out. Took 4 hours including a couple of tea breaks and that was removing loads of stuff from the engine bay for access, including the AC and a bit of adjustment and bleeding the system. A pressure bleeder is a must IMHO.
