Need a laptop of some sort for my daughters school work ,any recomendations
i dont have clue.Have been offered a Toshiba M200 Portege tablet\laptop\notepad thingy
looks impresive and they are 1200quid thanks Andy.
My computer parts guy now sells laptops were you can choose wich sort of parts you want in it, low-budget syst., middleclass range, or top range(wich comes with a 17 inch screen)
We have a variety of makes and models of laptops.
Have had the worst experiences of reliability and support with Dell.
The Philips ones were "difficult" to reinstall (and since it's Windows, it will need it).
The IBM ones are practically indestructible but more expensive.
HP/Compaq has become the least bad of the options - and support can actually be persuaded to send someone out.
You could try WStore.
NCT any of the above.
Ck.
Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

I wouldn't agree as we have had different experiences, we canned all the IBM / HP / Compaq laptops and went to Dells as they are far more reliable from our experience with them for the last 5 years.
We dont allow Dell machines at all anymore, laptop or desktops as they are so unreliable, HP laptops never give us any trouble, and the Toshiba & Sonys seems to work well too. ...just dont break a screen on a sony.
Apples though are ludicrously bad, the fisher price iBooks have about a 1/3rd failure rate in the first year, we hand out over 400 each year to our students, most of them get handed back to be replaced/repaired. (i work in a college by the way)

Interesting that we've had different experiences with the same type of kit. We actually still prefer Dell for servers, just not for laptops. They still rate higher than Sony (Vaio) on reliability and support though.

Heh well you see thats interesting as all our servers ar HP/Compaq and thats what we sell to customers as well!
Think another reason is that Dell is one of our customers so we get discount corporate prices
everyone seems to be converting to dell as its cheaper. but the hardware sux big time.
not a lot of pple know but if u spec out a del infastructure (lets say 3 mil worth) and hp quote 3.5 mil, HP will actually match dell's price. so its a no brainer really.
