Audi parts Dept & me Bomb etc!!

Hi, went to Audi today to pick up me plastic clips which had broke on me drivers
door, 2nd time lucky.... (i gave them part no. & still ordered the wrong bit)
Whilst i was there i asked how much antifreeze i needed (suprised them asking for the righ stuff, thanks to this site
But advised me that id be best if i got some kind of test done (cant remember what)
It was to see if i was leaking or summit.
I also asked about the "BOMB"....they didnt know what i was on about
so i explained it (we'll sort of) about it being a pressure thing & it can fly up
when you do it, LOL (told you i cant talk technical )
They looked on their system at diagrams & seem to think that i aint got one!
But then one guy sais summit about the master cylinder etc??
Some of the guys in the service are really nice to me & said they'd search my history etc, & really like the S2 & rs2.

Has anyone got a part no. or summit, as they asked me what i could find out.
Is the bomb really a big job, & is it gonna cost me ££££££'s

Cheers
Tina.

Tina, you really must give the guys at vagparts a ring instead of going to the dealers. Obviously they, as usual, know nothing about the car.
Ask to speak to Martyn, Alan or Paul. They'll know what you mean when you say the "bomb" (brake pressure accumulator)

too much...must resist.....DOH.....cannot resist....must answer

There are two answers to your question Tina...

1. When it is all dressed up and a taxi is waiting outside

or

2. A loud ticking noise, a count-down timer with verylittle left on it and the feeling that you should be somewhere else

Hi,
Go to S2central.net and there is an article on there regarding testing the bomb. It basically involves going for a drive, then (stopping) turning the engine off and counting the number of pedal presses you get before the pedal goes hard. I think it should be around 30 to be safe. Last time I tried it I got up towards the 50 mark.

Dealers are useless. I got told my car didn't exist so I took the smug moo behind the counter in to the carpark, showed her the car and suggested she try again. Still couldn't help at all! Useless useless useless.

Vagparts are the boys for the job.

<rant>Why are you always belittling my kind? Admittedly most stealers don't know jack about S2/RS2 parts but give them a chance. We are the people who call it a bomb. If you walked into a stealers and asked for a pressure reservoir or accumulator you'd stand a much better chance. </rant>

<apology>Sorry had a row yesterday on a similar subject with my trade rep yesterday. She cried, we hugged and made up, I felt a bit funny inside </apology>

Back to the topic in hand,

Bomb is 4A0 612 061 D (retails @ £274.31 + VAT) and the seals are N 904 054 01 @ £2.43 + VAT each.

Wab, at least your M/C is cheaper to replace than an ABY!!
I would assume its still the same as you had originally, so a 7A? You can get them cheap from GSF, if you want genuine its still something like £50 cheaper than ABY but will still cost around a ton.

I will do the drive/pedal press/count test tomorrow.
Im hoping its air, as now have the feeling audi will charge a loads to do it.
Jas (Fourrings) looked at my pads & seem ok as the clips were shiney

Yes Audi will charge you loads to do it - Dont let them. Mine has been doing the flashy(!) for over a year now but passes the bomb test with flying colours.

with mine there's no assistance on start up while the warning is flashing for about 20 seconds, then it seems to build up pressure after that and the brakes are ok.if i press the brakes hard enough while idling the warning flashes and the alarm sounds.also if i turn the engine off (once pressure is built up) then turn the ignition back on,it takes about 15 seconds and again the warning comes back on.so i know my bomb has a problem.i set straight off the other day and nearly hit the back of a megane, thank **** for the handbrake.
