OMG, more things to go wrong!!

Hi, tonight on my way home the temp warning light flashed & beeped.
Then flashed all the way home, i had to drive it as my bonnet catch is awkward,
so i find it hard to do on my own.
When it first started the temp was about 70, but it didnt go over its usual 2 doots over the 90 as fan always kicks in.
Could i have done some damage driving him home i took it easy.
Have topped it up a few times since i got the car, as when i go around bends & roundabouts it occasionally flashes & bleeps.
I know i need anti-freeze & gonna get the G12 stuff & pour it in, (im female & thats the way i do things )

Is this a normal thing with these cars, i do sit in a lots of traffic 5 days aweek.

if not, im also thinking of getting some of that cement stuff you tip in to seal anything.

    Cheers
    Tina

Don't put radweld or anything similar in the cooling system! It'll cause no end of grief, once in the system, it's virtually impossible to get rid of it. You probably don't have a leak anyway, but if you do, the usual suspects are:

      1) Electric water pump.
      2) Main water pump.
      3) End tanks of the radiator or the auxillary radiator.
      4) Bleader screw on top of radiator (check for surroundind cracks).
      5) Heater matrix.

I doubt the heater is leaking, as you would have noticed condensation on the screen and the smell. I would check the other mentioned places, needs to be in good light. Check for signs of coolant loss (identified by scaling / rusting).

Good advice. I had a small leak from my heater matrix so put some radweld to keep me going for a bit. Next day I lost about a litre and a half of coolant on a ten mile journey. Still not got it sorted.

With these cars you need a good local specialist or some mechanical ability. I have neither which is why my car hasnt moved off the drive for a while.

make sure your coolant level is above the the min.... cause that causes it to beep in ur dash...... (just below max - recommended)... it also happens round corners.. if its a bit low... (water moves when u corner right)

I know it sounds tedious but thats the warning system (gotta keep an eye out)

Worst case is it is the headgasket. It is more than likely a split hose - these are common all S2s - visually check for any water leaking or dripping. Get it to a specialist - NOT audi.

Its probably that little b*****d hose under the pas pump - which is what i suspect is causing my coolant leak at the mo. It drips onto the under tray so you cant see where its coming from. I tried to tackle this myself(and failed) gonna give it another go this weekend. Another failure looms me thinks. Damn my spanner muppetness.

there aint no mayo stuff in the oil cap, that one thing i do know what to look for.
Yeah, it 1st bleeps on hard corners or roundabouts :mischeif:
Also the under tray is off, & never notice anything after being parked up.

                      Hopefully its summit simple

                      Cheers

GR, mine is the same, just changed the main rad, no foam, no white in the oil, suspect water cooling pipework. I'm going to fill in cooling system with water and anti-freeze to find the leak, I've removed the tray.
