my sport quattro seems to run rich . i was running rs2 injectors before and the engine was running sweet except that it smoked you could tell it was running rich . since then i've put standards s2 injectors in now it seems to miss and you can tell its still running rich . i know the car will need mapping but i still need to run the engine in for 1000 miles . any ideas anyone could it be lambda ?

Hi!
I have seen the pics but don't know what the spec of you engine is!
Are you running motronic? Fuel pressure reg? -
fuel pressure regulator is from sx (adjustable ) i cant check the pressure at the moment because my gauge is not connected and yes i'm running motoronic from aby.Comment

Maybe thats your prob then. Obviously if you don't know what the base fuel pressure is it could be set too high. Think its 4 bar for the ABY and 3.8 for the RS2. Suggest you get that sorted first. I think your engine will appreciate not being bore washed!
Ok so is the ABY ecu stock? Think you need to get a baseline setting for everything first. Try not to mismatch the components. Ok you have an adjustable regulator but as long as it is set for the corect pressure for whatever inj/software, thats a start.
I was going to suggest blinking the codes but I guess you will get the codes that are symptomatic of rich running. Still might be worth a shot!Comment

Run it in hard and short. Not kidding, it worksOriginally posted by volcano rsstill need to run the engine in for 1000 miles
10 miles should do it. Run it multiple times up to the redline through the gears and then let it rest for a while before repeating.
Only thing thats need "running in" is bores, and running hard make ring pressure optimal.
Running rich and "slow" is a no no for a new engine

has anyone any ideas what the sx regulators are factory set at? . i can find that out on monday but now i cant wait to do something in the morning . ecu is standard at the moment once its run in it will be mapped .and audi cq i wouldn't take a chance on running it in for only 10 miles too much to risk especially coming upto winter i dont fancy taking out and building the engine again for next 6 months sooooo cold. me and cold dont get on .Comment

Hi!
You get what I'm saying right!
If you work from a known baseline it easier. Actually I would pull the fuses to erase the codes and the adaption. Again, thats so you have something to work from.
So the only thing from thats different from stock is the regulator and you don't know what the setting is? Personally I would hold off. Why risk it? Once you have set the reg up at least you know its ok.Comment

ok. i cant get the code when the chap done the wiring he didn't finish it all off he has to come back to sort out a few and the fault code wire is amongst them . so what you are saying is to put the regulator to its bottom settings ? to tell you the truth i haven't adjusted it at all from the factory setting but i can turn it anti clockwise to release the pressure a bit i suppose .Comment

Test not guess is what I am really saying.
I guess the ECU will have tried to adapt to running the RS2 injectors. If you could pull the code it would probably say mixture adaption exceeded etc. As I said before, that only tell you whats happened nor necessarily the cause.
Unless you know whats happening when you twiddle you run the risk of going the other way. Too weak or too rich. Both will do damage. After all that work surely its better to make sure things are spot on. I know its frustrating but....Comment

the battery is always disconnected i only connect to start the engine dosn't the ecu reset itsels after being off for so long?its also got bosch 044 motorsport fuel pump could that also contribute to the problem for example too much fuel being supplied?Comment

Hi!
The pump is desirable. But basically the regulator setting ensures that the injectors get the required pressure in the fuel rail. So even if the pump provides say 80psi the regulator bleeds the excess pressure back to the tank, maintaining the preset pressure in the rail. Problem is you don't know what that is.
Certaintly I would have thought that the RS2 injectors would have run rich regardless. If you run the std ABY ones with the corect pressure (4 bar?) at least you have a baseline. If you get the diagnosis lead hooked up that a bonus too. The bonus of a motronic is at least it has some diagnostic capacity so you might as well listen to what its saying!
Am I right in thinking you have also relocated the maf?
What you need to do is workout how your setup is different from the std one. There is certaintly a question mark over the fuel pressure bit if you moved other bits as well you will need to establish how that effects things.Comment

I doubt the fuel pump will cause the engine to over fuel - the pressure in the rail is determined by the FPR. So if the original fuel pump output was doubled, the FPR will still maintain a constant pressure in the rail.
I would certainly check codes and go from there.Never show a fool a half built house.

where do i start the whole bloody car has moved from its original settings the maf is normal before the turbo. could i use 3b regulator untill i run the car in or is that a no no ?what does it flow ? its got a 3 inch exhaust so its breathing better also a catch tank but surely them kind of things are not going to contribute towards it running rich . what else i'm i missing out on that i should check?Comment

delta cant check the codes the wiring is not complete the electrician has to come back to finish it, that includes the wiring bit for the fault code plug.Comment
