I know I'm gonna get torched for this but....

What's the ops here on replacing a NA 7A 20V engine with a 1.8T from an A4? Has it been done in the UK? I think somebody on the VWVortex Forum claimed it was done successfully. Is it easy to install and tune? Just wondering.

i live in usa, and there is guy close to where i live who got this done. It is running 300 whp and is very fast. However i talked to him and he said that he had to modify the frame rails in order to make motor mounts to work. I looked at the car but dont remember exactly what and how was modified in order to fit the engine, but imoportant thing is that it can be done.
On the other hand i think that you will be better of just turbocharging the 7a, because end result would be lot better and in my opinion 5cyl engines are far better than 1.8T.

The 1.8 T engine is a very good engine, and is coming on leaps and bounds in terms of tuning.

Talk to MRC about tuning results from them.

Audi helped Ovlov to make the 5 cylinder so is it ok to like the blue oval for it's engine?

oddly enough, on TopGear when clarkson drove it, how nice did that engine sound as well!!!

Huge tuning potential for the Ford boys there!!!

if i knew parts were soooooo scarce and expensive for the 7A a year ago, i would have gone the 1.8T route. there's a sticky on the 'tex about fitting it into a B3 using stock audi parts, although making mounts isn't all that difficult i'm sure. and making a 1.8t run on ecu other than stock has been dome a million times by now so no rocket science involved.

really, it's an economic decision, IMHO and what you are planning for your car. if you plan on drving the thing for a million miles, a 1.8 is probably a good idea cuz if parts are hard to find for the 7a now, just imagine 5 years from now. however, my gut says you can get more ultimate power from the 5.

i wonder when the new 2.5L from the mk5 golf/jetta is gonna find it's way into an old audi....seems a great way to get a new motor in. anyone have knowledge on whether it goes in? (wonder if its the same block even?!)

I was impressed with the grip for a 2WD car but it would never be ordered in the orange

Rica chip that engine for 300bhp straight away.

To be honest i wouldnt want that kind of power in a FWD car.
