Police tried to have me for dangerous driving (not true!) followed by careless driving (similar to your problem Wab, but also not true!) but in the end settled for my excess speed (which was true, but the officer said my driving was otherwise ok!)

I think it is difficult to prove anything like this and if you haven't hit anything or gone through a red light or something daft like that, it doesn't seem like they'd have much to go on - but be careful!!!!

Usually means you’re a young guy in a nice car having fun. It’s the old favourite if you’re not breaking the speed limit, they try to find something else to do you for.

I got pulled for doing a hard 1st gear launch from traffic lights, 0-30mph in the blink of an eye, I wasn’t speeding so they tried the old "dangerous driving" routine on me

In a white van though I thought they were immune to traffic laws

Seems that you may have caught a plod in time of the month mode: end of month must hit my ticket/conviction target to get that little gold star so I can shove my nose further up my bosses a""" just to possibly help my promotion and get me out of this stupid car!!!!!!

They have tried this one on me when stopping at some traffic lights - notice stopping - unfortunatley I sneezed and came to a halt 1/2 a car length over the whit line, they waited for me to pull off again and then pulled me. Now all the expletives in the world do not describe what I thought of that man that day but needless to say it was overturned.

                I agree with mcandmar

I got pulled over driving my girlfriend's mini cooper, with her sitting next to me, for driving in fog with the front fog lights on. I was driving considerably under the speed limit and well within the "sensible" limit given the road conditions. Apparently, though, the darlings of the North Wales police have recently had to deal with "countless fatal accidents as a direct result of young people using front fog lights on high performance cars and dazzling oncoming cars". I pointed out to the pig that (a) it was foggy and that (b) he had maybe missed the point of fog lights - that they actually reduce such dazzling problems by firing the light out low along the ground rather than up into the fog. At this point he then decided to run a check on whether i'd stolen the car and claimed that he'd determined that i wasn't on the insurance to drive the car. Despite providing him with the insurance documents to prove that i WAS, he still insisted that i report to a police station within 7 days to re-present all relevant documents. Very kindly, he agreed to "let me off about the fog lights on this occasion, so long as i had learned my lesson (!!)"

                What a tw@

The phrase "undue care and attention" surely means unecessary or unwarranted care and attention was practiced by Will, which implies that you were in fact drving too safely for the conditions . I'm surprised noone has picked up on this or am I being pedantic?

You normally get your collar felt when driving without due care and attention surely?

Jeez they can be wakners sometimes!

Azman, that's not a bad interpretation - remember the traffic police love their role, as promotion (and more pay as a consequence) actually does come with more convictions ...so it's like taking candy from a baby with the tickets they are handing out for whatever reason!

Nuvo, that's true - but I think the phrase needs correcting - the law calls it "Without due care and attention" (so it's us guys who got it wrong not them - best not pursue that line of defence!)
