I'm so cross/ depressed...
For the last 4 weeks, I had been safe in the happy knowledge that, having agreed to sell our flat, and simultaneously agreed to buy a house, that I knew where we stood. We were going to sell our flat and buy a bigger house, all on March 31st 2006. Everybody was going to be happy - our buyer was going to get a lovely 2-bed flat, we were going to get a lovely 3-bed house in which to bring up our forthcoming baby.
Everything was agreed, surveys had been booked, mortgage valuations done, mortgage applications paid for, plans put in place. Except now the people who we are buying off have decided they don't want to sell anymore.
We're now back to square one and have no possible means of recompense. Even though they had agreed to sell to us, and have paid out good money to get that sale in progress, we have no come back against that.
Why is the house-buying process in England so open to abuse? Why is it that agreeing to sale is not actually any legally-binding contract to actually go through with it?
I'm so depressed.
We now have to start the whole house-hunting process again, and basically we've wasted the last 3 months-worth of house seeking, and frankly nothing other than the house we had offered on was anything like worth buying, and I'm worried we'll not find anything else remotely as good for the money we can afford.
And yes, I am having a baby

The thing is, we've got such a "hard deadline" with the baby, that what was a nicely relaxed move process has now increased in anxiety levels quite dramatically! There's so little on the market round my way that's affordable and remotely worth living in, or remotely suitable for a wee baern. Bah. Where's that gin bottle gone...
