    it's Alive!!!!!

Well finally the main reason for S2 ownership!!!...After having my car a few months, and to be honest left a little numb by the performance, I have finally had my car sorted/serviced...wwooww what a difference a new service and new thermostat makes....goes like billy-o!!...hopefully when I get the "Mark-h" mod sorted it will be even sweeter!!!....

Cheers to everyones advice/help/nice shiny new bits!!!.....

It's a great moment when you realise that what you though was a quick car is actually a bloody quick car!

Hopefully i will feel like that when i get all the bits sorted on mine. I keep buying bits and not fitting them. The list is so far Mark H mod, short shifter, Thermostat, Hi-Spec monster brakes and thats it so far. Just out of interest what temp was your s2 running at before the thermostat change? Has fuel consumption improved? Cheers

        Stevie,
The temperature varied depending on whereabouts you were driving. In traffic it would sit around 90° but as soon as you got out of town it would drop sometimes below the first mark!!! It has been more noticeable during the colder days/nights that we have had.
As for my fuel consumption I have only just filled it up for the first time since the work. I will keep you posted.
The first thing I did was fit 996 brakes as the current brakes scared the sh*te out of me!!....If you need any help/ advice Bry was the man he fitted mine...

        Good luck
        Mike

Reckon on about 2-3 hours labour. Depends if the mechanic has done one before... There's a fair bit of disassembly required to get to the booger.

The temperature gauge nose-diving to zero when you know the engine is up to temperature is probably a fault with the multifunction sender, not the thermostat. I think this is a common fault/ design issue with the s2 - I have this occasionally, although recently it's been working fine.

                Steve,
I've not had the bill yet?!?!?!.....when I get it I will PM ya. I will say one thing, the mechanic who hadn't done one for years did a few other jobs while he was at it so a definite figure might be an estimate only.
                Good luck sorting yours out

mine stays at just above 50 then in traffic goes up to just above 90 when the fan cuts in. Sounds very similar to one posted on here before and they was advised it was the thermostat. What do u think thermostat or the multifunction sender?

thermostat...defo....I mis-read my gauge as it sounds identical to your problem....50 out in the open and up to temp in traffic....do it man....I am really enjoying my S2 now!!!.....

Sounds like the thermostat and mark h are the next things in line then. How does the thermostat affect performance then?

it keeps the engine on a constant warm up cycle, so it will never give you full throttle. Thats what I understand anyway...the job is a real pain, so if you have a mechanic you can trust let him do it!!!....but if you want to have some "fun" scraping your knuckles good luck!!!......let me know how you get on....
