I had my first drag race for a while today......

Sitting at a red light in the lane I wanted to be in was a 4wd turbo beast. So I pulled up in the other lane so that I could try and blast past when the lights turned green.

This beast spots my intension so starts revving and creeping forwards. I make no visible movement - he doesn't see me engage the launch control button, or diff lock as it is also known

The lights for the other road go amber, so we know it's coming...he is creeping forwards, revving his engine, I am now slowly bringing up the revs.........

The lights go, he revs first, drops the clutch hard and leaps forwards...all 4 wheels grip instantly and he is off........I nail the throttle, drop the clutch at around 4.5k.......my front wheels spin up on the cold wet tarmac and I start to move sideways, but the rear wheels grip and launch me, the diff lock disengages just before the first bend and I keep it planted, round his inside cut back and I am ahead (phew) just before the road narrows into one lane.

Whilst I did win, I have to say, I was mighty impressed with this guys ride and all I can say is...... Those LandRover 110 TDi's can really grip when they launch off the line!

i had the same grief with a sri vectra v6 done him like a 4" nail

That's definitely the S4's V6 sound... Whilst I wouldn't condone that kind of driving behaviour on public roads, they do make the Saxo look rather silly don't they, but then you'd hope so!

Did the same to an S class merc on Sunday except that he was already rolling in the outside lane that filtered quickly into my lane.

Well you can guess what happened when I launched hard and first and a bit of 7k rpm in 2nd

Funny thing is they won't acknowledge you when they drive a flash car and eventually draw level....
