Hhheeelllppp What Have I done To My Engine!!!!

    Hello all,
I have just brought a salvage Bora to repair and use as a runaround while a search for a sutible S2 to use as a trackday car. It had a front end smack but nothing to major, no chassis or airbag damage but the sump was damaged so I replaced it and the oil filter with genuine parts. I filled it with Longlife oil and started her up for the first time! Everything seemed OK for the first few seconds but the it started to sound a bit tappety. Switched it off and went to the front to take a look only to find £50's worth of oil on the garage floor.

Looked for the normal, had I left the sump plug out, missed a bolt on the new sump etc but nothing then I noticed the oil filter o-ring sticking out pass the oil filter itself???!!!??

I know the oil filter was fitted correctly and the seal was on fine so I'm guessing high oil pressure blew it out but WHY?

Please please please can one of you lovely people tell me what the likely causes of this might be? Any help or suggestions to prove or disprove something would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and sorry for the somewhat long winded post!

    Paul.

Thanks for your quick reply, I'll give it another go tomorrow and see what happens!

Will it do any damage if it does it again? I'll have someone keeping an eye on it this time so i can switch it of straight away if it does it again.

before you put the filter on always oil the rubber seal for it to seal properly.

                PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
The old oil filter had a dent in it from the accident but I thought everything else was ok, now I've had a closer look I can see that where the oil filter screws onto the oil cooler the face of the oil cooler is slightly dented meaning the oil filter screws up tight but has a gap at the back!

So all I need is a new oil cooler and were back in business!!

Thanks for all your help and advice guys.
