Looking at my official RS2 sales brochure it states that the top speed is 163mph limited. It was limited at that speed so as not to be faster than the 911 (993) Carrera produced at the same time
RS2 top speed?

Glyn is correct the RS2 is limited to 163mph, however I don't think it is anything to do with the 911 top speed but was the speed to which the original SP8000 tyres were rated to when carrying the RS2's heavy load on tyres that were fitted on 7inch rims.Comment

The RS2 was limited to 163 mph as far as the maximum engine RPM would allow, coupled to the transmission gearing. With that, we can safely say the RS2 was "geared" to attain it's stated maximum. It did not have a speed limiter.
Later cars are "electronically" limited to their maximum speeds, i.e speed limiters are built into their softwareNever show a fool a half built house.
Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.

Speedos are off. I've done 6500 rpm in top gear. The speedo indicated well over 170mph, but i think it was only about 162 mph.SSComment

RS2 WAS actually limited to 163mph, NOT just gearing. The manual/circuit diagram actually tells you how to remove the limiter, but says that you must not do so
:mischeif: .
This was kinda discussed a couple of months ago on this thread:
where I estimated theoretical top speed (making numerous assumptions) to be about 170 or just over, based on the maths (The maths is on page 3 if anyone cares!
).
