Is it worth doing it on a brand new car?? My mates asked me what is the best way to run his new engine in when he gets it. Its a 5cyl too Worth disconnecting the WGFV too?
Not a Focus ST is it? Went out for a test drive in one, very nice - torquey, quick, corners at scary speeds and is still solid on the road. That said, the only lad I know of with one says the leather recently split on the seat.. guess it'll always be a Ford.
Yeah i think so... shoulda gone for the blue. Haven't seen his in the flesh, he works up in Milnthorpe (South Lakes area) so perhaps next time I'm up there... I thought it was a cracking little car, and Clarkson seemed to like it on TopGear too. Wonder what the tuning potential is...
Nice - I'd love to take a tuned ST on the twisties. Now all they need is a 4wd version... don't think I could go back to fwd. I had terrible trouble driving a Golf TDi yesterday - traction control did overtime!
Back to the run in question. I personally would not do it, although if you search the net there are lots of stories in favour and against. I think I would stick to the manufacturers recommended procedure....

Most of the theory revolves around the pressure used to seal the rings against the cylinder wall.
The suggestion is that engines pushed hard in the prescribed manner will do the final "wearing-in" of the rings and cylinder walls more effectively, whereas the "soft running-in" procedure will not be as effective. This supposedly means that you will never get the same effective sealing against the cylinder walls.
I have a bike owning colleague who swears by "hard running-in" of engines, but to be honest I don't know how accurate the theory is when put into practice. There are indeed some websites which appear to demonstrate startling improvements - but I would prefer to see a truly independent test. Surely one for a motoring magazine or magazine TV show to try out?!!

It's not better than sex, but it runs it a close second.
I would do this to my engine after a rebuilt! But because of the turbo i would do it with 0.5 bar and not more! Dont know if with the turbo pressure the cylinderblow by will be increased and the beginning of the procedure!
There is someone with a webpage called motorman! He has some interesting stuff in his page about Engines and motorbike engines!
