Or do what I do and leave it switched "off" whilst in the car.
If it's that important they'll ring back later.
Agree with all of the above, just bite your lip and pay the £30.

Because I was caught doing 84mph in a 60 on a radar gun, not a camera or anything like that - the day marked on the letter was correct, the date was one out, and it was only a typo. If you challenged it, they would merely write a new letter with the correct date on it.

Uh... Isn't that what your car is.
I thought S2 Avants were sold in the UK as Audi 80 Estate S2s.
ETKA list it under an Audi 80 Avant Quattro (along with the 4 and 6 cylinder petrol and 4 cylinder diesel versions).
Only if he made significant errors, such as calling it a red Ford Escort when it is a blue audi, and got the registration wrong, could it be challenged as an unstable report.

95 ABY S2 Coupe - Ragusa Green Subtle mods here and there
2011 A5 3.0 TDi - Lava Grey With every option available (except a towball)
The other thing to remember is an Audi 80 Estate doesn't sound anywhere near as sporty as an S2 Avant :mischeif:
It works both ways as I found when I got pulled over for going a wee bit too quick a few weeks back. When the PNC came back as Audi 80 Estate Red the nice policeman didn't bother going round the car with a fine tooth comb and just gave me a slapped wrist instead of 3 points and a fine.
If the PNC came back Audi S2 Avant I'm sure his attitude would have been very different. Especially if he gone to check over the car and found porsche brakes.
