    Idea's for in car cam

    Hi Guys

For a very long time now Ive always wanted a camera behind the grill, with capabilities to record to some device which later can be transfered onto a PC.

I know within the RC world they have tiny camera's mounted to them worth £60 and they transmit to a receiver, which is plugged into a camera, which records onto a tape

I would like to know what options I have. What camera to use? how to record? any idea's are much appreciated.

If you want to record it as video, rather than stills, then I would go for a small MPEG-4 camera running CIF resolution at simple profile. That would allow you to tune the output to the required quality (still crappy in my opinion, but then I work with broadcast quality video), but still be a low enough bandwidth to record. PC webcams are similar to this, although often only QCIF quality.

I would record onto a flash device (1 to 4 GB flash card) rather than tape or hard disk, to illiminate any moving parts.

Depending on what you actually want this for, I would be tempted to use all PC parts (webcam, flash drive etc).

          Cheers n

rotory : that look ideal, just hooks direct into a home camera?

keeper : to record history (also thinking about nuremburgring)

Si : that setup seems on the poor quality side, specially frames per second

            keep em coming
