    England vs Uruguay

Does anyone else think this is a bit harsh?

I though England were all over them in the second half. Uruguay created a few changes in the first half and were only on top at half time due to a flukey/brilliant unstoppable volley.

England thoroughly deserved to win constantly taking the game to Uruguay. They were the only team in it in the second half. Towards the end Uruguay lost their collective temper started to try and get players booked and deserved to crumble....

Nope i think thats a fair article, until SWP came on England didn't really look that dangerous.

Yes they had lots of possession but they didn't move the Uruguay defence around enough.

I thought a draw was a fair result as Uruguay's formation really stifled England.

Big up SWP - never really seen him play before, he looked really inventive and dangerous. I thought as a team we played well against what was a very organised defence (for most of the game). Nice to see plenty of accurate passing for once (give or take the usual random Rio blunders )

Best image of the game - Crouch and Wright-Phillips waiting to come on at the touchline...

I'd rather have Rooney watching my back as Crouch is a softie!

Christ the English Lions look lethargic!....

Sven needs to take his best 23 and start his best 11 and right now I can't for the life of me decide who would be on the 23.
James, Campbell, Ferdinand, Beckam, Garrad, Lampard, Terry, SWP, Owen, Crouch,
                  J. Cole, Dafoe, A. Smith, Carragher, Rooney, Neville Bros., A Cole, Bridge, Robinson, Bent , Carrick, Parker?

Carrick a must. Who started both moves for the goals? Although SWP did do well the service Beckham was providing from the right was top quality just needed someone to get on the end of it Crouch maybe?

Beckham didnt provide the right service for the strikers on the night, the reason england got more space 2nd half was they had to double team on SWP leaving more free space in the middle.

Becks isn't a threat in behind although he has very good delivery of a ball, but when the oppo sit on the edge of the box, Becks crosses are meat and drink for the centre halves.

Carrick........... erm decent player but Scott Parker is better than Carrick and Jenas put together, why isn't he in the squad?

In the first half i counted about seven or eight corners or free kicks Beckham put in that if we had an Alan Shearer for example would have resulted in at least three goals. As for scott parker agree he probably on current form should be ahead of Jenas but no way ahead of carrick. Carricks vision and passing is pure quality, he started both moves for the goals and almost a third with a pass that looks simple but is very hard to execute to Joe Cole in the first half which he nearly steered home. One thing i didnt understand last night. Everyone knows about Rooney he is our best forward so why play him for 70-75 mins when someone else couls have shown what they can do?

Carricks a neat bits and pieces player but his influence is minimal he cant change a game parker can.

You've hit the nail all beckhams best bits came from deadballs exactly what i was pointing out. Gerrard, Lampard. Cole and Rooney can all take freekicks and corners to the same standard. SWP in Beckham out.
