It's true. Speak to different people or on a different day/hour/minute, your premium will change every time. Sometimes mods will make a difference, sometimes they won't. There is no logic to it.

@rotory boy ... do A.flux insure the value of the modificated part or do they just allow it to be done?...

what are they like for engine mods?

I had a problem with admiral, i phoned up to ask about the legitmacy of a potential claim, there was no claim, no accident, just incase there was. I then insured the car with soem one else a year later and they said i had a claim of 1k and i said that wasnt possible i conacted admiral and they said they couldnt remove it, so i asked for the £1k then as i handt recieved anymoney for my "Claim". So ive been paying a higher premium this year and nothing has been done still. nearly 10months later!
Any ideas on how to sort this out?

go to trading standards that always frightens these companies. The policy my brother has is fully comp i think with tesco. I no he was thinking of going over to classic so im not sure if the discount was on that.

Yes they do: replacement is to the modified specification that you have told them about. Greenlight Insurance do the same. Both are specialist high performance and/or modified car insurers - and it makes a real difference.

Not all insurers appear to insure on this basis - I had quotes from some a year or three back where they wanted to charge £££ more because of the modifications, but would only repair to factory specification. Needless to say, I *cough* politely *cough* explained why I thought such a policy was ****.

Shocked, exhausted, hosed, bushed, dumped, chipped, mounted, filtered, gauged, packed, intermittantly wiped and braked. I mean broken. Now, about the car...

you need to contact watchdog or trading standards or they will always get away with it .

Its not trading standards you need to talk to. Its the insurance ombudsman. Admiral will send you forms if you ask them or else go to their website and fill in a complaint online.
The ombudsman will look at the case from an unbias point of view and make a decision that is final. If you lose then tough, but if you win, then Admiral have no option but to abide by their decision. It sounds like you have a valid claim against them, so I rekon you'd win easily.

When I had my accident I was with elephant.co.uk (part of the Admiral group). They would only restore the car back to its original spec. I was however allowed to remove the modified parts and replace them with the original parts. In my case I swapped back my brakes and wheels before my car was disposed of.

Direct Line noted the modified brakes, but didn't charge me anything extra as it was seen as a safety modification.
