    800rpm +/- 50rpm, CO .75% volume are the specs,

    Procedure to adjust,

    Check for Error codes.
Fully warm up (oil temp 80 degrees), wait until radiator fan has run a few times.
    All electrics and ac off,

(To check base idle without diag machine / vagcom.)

Remove dipstick and clamp crank case breather hose. (if you have replaced with the metal version you have to disconnect them from the intake side and plug the holes)
Disconnect electrical connection from carbon canister. (valve is the one closest to the coolant tank)
Check engine speed, must be 750-850rpms. If not you need to adjust,

    (To adjust base idle)

Plug a fuse into top of fuel pump relay (in fusebox under the bonnet). This will do the following,

Sets ignition timing static to 12 degrees.
    Idle valve fixed at 540ma.
    O2 sensor control switched off.
Adaptive learned valve of idle valve reset to 0.
Engine temp fixed at 80 degrees reguardless of actual temp.

Then adjust screw on throttle body to set idle speed to 800rpms.
Then adjust Mixture screw on MAF to get .75%.

Remove fuse from relay, raise engine speed to 2000rpms and then return to idle, check values again.

You will find when you adjust one it puts the other out so it can take a few goes to get them both right.

If your idle is way off you have another propblem you need to fix first, making adjustments here will only make things worse. Crank case breathers collapsing and leaking fuel injectors are very common on the 7A and will screw up idle speed and mixtures no end.

Exhaust gas is measured from the metal pipe on the manifold, before the cat.
