Just serviced my new 3b!! Check this oil out....Staggering!!

ok. So I just serviced my new 3B (new to me that is) today....
160k miles with 140k full VAG service history and the last 3 years and 20 k (minimum) with the goon I bought it off who had literally never done a days work on the car.... :mischeif:

Anyway....he said "it might need an oil change"!!!

    well jeeezzz...

i dropped it's guts out and I have NEVER seen any oil as disgusting in my life!!!
    Like gloopy mud sewage mixture!!

God knows how the car was still running ok......since I did a full service she is running like a beauty

just goes to show how tough these motors must be

Hmmm, definately overdue for a change then!

You may want to do a couple more oil changes at...say..a couple of thousand mile intervals, just to make sure its all nice and clean internally.

        Yeah...cheers Pete.

Thats the plan having seen that filthy gloop!!!

Going to do a fresh change in about 500 miles and then another in say a couple of thousand...
now on to the next job(s) with the car!

yeah....3 years and 20k plus miles of city driving (day to day!)
He said the car was mint when he got it with the VAG history (ok. I know it's not the be all and end all but its a bonus having FMDSH)

but he said he just "wasn't into doing stuff like that"

and had only had the car MOTd and insured and fixed when broken.....
                NOTHING else at all!!!
I think that oil had been in longer than 20k looking at the filth myself though!!!

I've been doing a bit more city driving than usual lately, so I'm glad of my 3K mile/6 mth oil change habit!

So what else has he just not bothered to do as he "wasn't into doing stuff like that"...

Hope you're using fully synth oil, 10w60 / 15w50 or something similar with a new filter.

Might be worth getting the sump off at some point to see what the state of the oil pickup is like? Don't want oil starvation due to a blocked pickup.

                      yeah. cheers andy.
I'm using a quality semi synthetic 10w 40 and a new VAG filter ...thought I would use that initially as mileage is fairly high and didn't want too thin an oil...

I will drop the sump off as you say...and check the oil pickup.

other things that were not done was the exclamation warning light was taped over as he couldn't fix the error (or his mate who he reckons was a vw mechanic?!!!)
hydraulic pressure accumulator at fault here I think...

Also, the abs light is on and off sometimes...

and the alternator sounds like it is on its way out as it makes a strange whine at startup when revved and even when warmed up if I put the lights on it starts to complain a bit

That said, I will be doing the work myself, and I got the car for a cheap price compared to most S2's

and it's totally solid and very clean body wise and all underside, bushings and so on are in great nick. Just glad I got the oil out of there!!!
