Digital Boost and EGT on Stock Digital display

Hi people, i was 2 days ago in an RS2 from a guy here in Germany! He had built a module that showed on the Stock Digital display (not trip Computer) in Red Color the Boost pressure, the max boost pressure on the last seconds ect!

The problem is he told me that it is an one example and he would not tell me who maked it! Would it be very difficult and expensive to make it work with boost and EGT that can be changed with a button or that it displays at the same time Boost and EGT! It was very nice!

The display worked as always when the Fuel was low, or the washer tank had less water but since it would go in Black (No problems to show) then it displayed the Boost!

    Cheers

Well the original Audi radio can be made to display the current radio channel in that display area, so it must be possible to send data for display. Maybe that is the starting point for this project.

If you find out, please please let us know

I've wondered about doing this. If i could produce a plug 'n' play module for less than £30, would anybody be interested?

        yep

I think the answer will be a big yes!!! it would save having unsightly boost gauges fitted in vents etc

we would need you to tell us what sensors to get to make it work or do it as a kit!!

Please keep use informed, I for one will have one!!!

I'd have one too! I don't really want a gauge in my vents.

Me too, if the price is right! Is his display it was in Red color! I think it would be also nice in Yellow!

The thing is it must not disturb the original Funktions of the display and have Boost and EGT!

Explanation: I am talking about the display that i.e. shows you if the brakelights work properly when you start the engine!

Ok then... what would people like then?

              Option 1 - A bar-graph type display

              Option 2 - Digits

              Option 3 - Both (selectable)

Option 4 - Please let me know if you would like something else.

Billman - Sorry for the hi-jack!

                  digits

digital (digits) for me! could it have a memory function eg last trip max boost/EGT. can it do more as in charge air temp aswell? will it use the function button on the indicator stalk or a new micro switch...

to be honest a normal analogue gauge is goin to cost £50 for a crap one, so if you get near that its a steal but I would be prepared to pay quite a bit more for a 'plug and play' kit! say £100!?

The electronics to control the display is the "hard part". Adding extra features is "easy". Adding sensors is also possible but controlling it from the stalk is harder.

Please post your wish lists and I will see what I can do. The only limits are in your imagination and your wallets!

Hi-Jack??? I dont think so! I started it so we could maybe found a solution with someone knows electornics better than me!

Can you make some Pictures examples of how it will look? I think the Option 3 would be very nice with a switch! Maybe have Firt click boost, second EGT, third Both, Fourth Graphs ect!

The Prob with mechanical gauges is that they use Parts that are not so Cheap to produce! To produce a Microchip is much more Cheaper these days! In a Race car the Separate gauges would be better! But in a Saloon street going car i dont like it full of gauges like on a Fighter jet!

We want the Wallets Full! So make it Cheap!

I think the most people would want:

                      1. Boost
                      2. EGT
                      3. Wide Band Lambda
                      4. Charge Temperature
                      5. Memory Functions
                      6. Maximum Values Warning

I would prefer a Separate remote switch so its easier to Realize and place it wherever you like!

                        Agreed.

The one comment I would make is that analogue (whether guage or bar graph) is easier to read, as you can glance at it and read it 'in your mind' whereas a digital readout which is constantly changing is much harder to read, as the digits all look like '8'.

Looking forwards to this I asked about this last year and a Russian chap said he would look at doing it with the temp guage, but nowt came of it.

                          analogue

I dont think the diplay has enough pixels for a analogue clock stiyle display but agree in principal that they are easer to read real time... but do you need to do that? A slower refresh rate will stop the '8' sindrom and the memory ****ion used for diagnostics and set up, also if you had a 'alarm' function for over boost or over temp may be change in colour of display with a audible warning that would be of more use...
