Totally agree with you. The small amounts we're talking about are just pocket change in this context.Originally posted by Fat Audi 80FFS I am not against green policies persay but to suggest that some one who drives a £50k BMW X5 that does 18 mpg will really contemplate changing thier car to a Vauxhall Corsa 3 cyl 1.2l for the sake of a saving of £100 in road tax is frankly hilarious.

Road tax in the UK is still very low. Over here in Ireland road tax for an S2 is 800 Euros. Tax is on a sliding scale with engine cc. Makes a 1.8T a good buy. There is still a big chelsea tractor brigade unfortunately.
When I lived in the Netherlands the road tax was based on weight and fuel type and cc I think. It was also much higher than the UK.Comment

350 Euros yearly road tax here in Belgium for a 2.2liter gasoline engine ( regardless if it's turbocharged or not ), diesels pay almost twice that amount but everyone here has a turbo diesel.
Really big engines like 4 liter turbo diesel Audis or Mercs are virtually non-existent and I haven't seen a 6liter Audi or Merc with Belgian plates in years. IIRC, a 5 liter gasoline engine costs close to 2000 Euros in yearly road tax
