Cam belt change

hi all,

looking at a couple of S2's (1 Avant, 1 coupe) and i think they are both due for a cambelt change.

Don't have the tools or expertise to do this myself, hence how much would it cost to get this done at a garage? Obviously need to know this as it has a pretty big bearing on what I pay for the thing...

hi i think if you replace all aux belts/water pump/tensioners+labour its roughly £300-£350 think roughly £200 of parts.

Ive posted a link thats a sticky in the engine and turbo section with a list of required parts for the ABY Engine.

Parts from memory are somewhere in the region of 150-200 i guess, cant remember if thats retail or the price i got them for tho as i had them sitting around ages before doing it recently.

The job itself is pretty straight forward tho, if you have reasonable mechanical experience or able to think logically as you work then it shouldnt be a problem.

Your only issue may come when you get to the main crank bolt as its large and requires a large amount of torque to undo and do up afterwards, which also requires the crank to be locked with a special tool, not the gearbox!
