I can safely say they werent trying then cos an M3, E36 or E46 will easily waste an S2, trust me ive tried enough times when playing about with mates in theres, they have more power, less tranmission loss and comparable in weight...... also no turbo lag.
E36 M3 evo is 321bhp as standard, if its just the normal M3 you have a chance as they are 270bhp i believe or there abouts.
They are geared better as well i believe.
No mate.
the evo 3.2 litre 321bhp and 3 litre "normal" 286bhp are very very close in real terms.
The evos rarely put out more than 300-310bhp max as stock (with freeflow k and n on) adn 3 litres are normally 290-305bhp.
Very very close in straight line. Evo can just pull away post 80mph if the extra hp is there.
trust me. Ive owned one
Well I hung on the coat tail of a brand new porsche cayman "s" on saturday afternoon, so much so that he would not look at me when we pulled up at a roundabout!
My 280 bhp is very healthy...
Cheers,
Steve

Must be something up with your car because ive wasted new m3's and a 400bhp m5 and loads of 911's and im not running much more power than you.I love the look of m3 drivers faces especially on the motorway as i leave them in my wake.

I have chased an E46 M3 up to 140 and he seemed quite impressed and gave me a wave and a smile.
I played with a Porsche Cayman last saturday no problem.
I think it defintely depends on the situation though. The S2 has huge midrange punch due to the lovely flat torque curve but get caught off boost and you are playing catch up.
I guess the answer to all your problems is modified RS2 spec. Better start saving though!
Cheers,
Steve.
