VW Golf Mk.4 - rear bushes help

Hi guys,

A quick question for any VW fans... my bro's golf had lots of knocking over bumps, he's had a mechanic look at it and the rear bushes are shot aparrently. The VW stealer's advice? "OEM part has changed, so you'll need a new rear axle too @ £400". Is this BS or will the powerflex kit at VAGparts for the mk.4 golf fit the "old axle"?

The bushes have changed. Originally axle beams came with hydro mountings built in, later beams use old fashioned rubber bushes.

You don't need to change the axle though as the rubber bushes fit. 1J0 501 541 C retail @ £15.55 + VAT each.

I'm surprised any stealers are still trying that old chestnut (I haven't pulled that scam for at least couple of years )
