Belgium has the highest average level of quality of living for the whole EU but it still is lower than the Scandinavian paradises and Switzerland of course.
Reasonable real estate ( try like 3 times less than in the UK ), good salaries, close to free educational system all the way up and including University for the kids, close to free top notch health system ( nothing to do with the NHS, believe me ), fully lit road and highway system ( no need for HID's here ! ) which is by the way, the most efficient highway system in Europe. And last but not least, hardly any speed cameras !

But you gotta speak french or dutch..... that's the major drawback.

How else is the Health Service paid for then? Stealth taxes - VAT and car taxation..etc, indirect or otherwise. Dear motoring or no NHS?

Thats all the illegals scamming the system who are killing the NHS, i cannot claim a check up over here for 2 years until i have prooved i am healthy and that is in a private health fund!!!. If i suddenly get something nasty i have to pay, even though i am in the health fund-- harsh i know, but it saves the country a fortune, UK should follow suit instead of allowing all the illegals to go to the hospitals and dentists in their first week and ordering £5k worth of treatment with a £200/hr Translator provided out of your hard earned--Its true aswell, thats one reason why i left-my missus was sick of all the conning going on.

A few more generations of an increasing birthrate in chavs and a decreasing one in intelligent working people and I sense economic meltdown for the Uk...not meaning to be a doom monger or anything!

Couldnt agree more, it was a study done and published on one of the Ex Pat forums where 30 years ago, for every 50 people working there was one claiming benefits, 20 years ago it halved to 25-1, 10 years ago it dropped to 10-1, last year it was 4-1, and they say in the next few years at this rate it will be 2-1, so how much Tax will you have to pay to support these figures, considering that they cost more than you earn generally, when you take into account the people Paid to work out their benefits, the maintainance and up keep on their benefit housing, medical benefits, and gawd knows what else. A person we knew in UK with his wife and kids used to claim more money (£2200/Month- AFTER DEDUCTIONS!!!) than me and my missus earned doing 40 hrs each and getting diddly squat from the govorment but bills and TAX, just like the pensions deffosite, gone in 15-18 years-- No state pension for anyone due to retire after 15-18 years-- "Thanks For the Nat.Ins. and 40 years busting your guts, but sorry the dole wallers and illegals have spent your pension, but hey they have great teeth dont they ". I cannot admit Oz is all rosy, things are not perfect over here--quite far from it with the new work place laws which give any employer the power to sack you coz they are havin a bad day or without reason, or lay you off on the Friday and force you to re-start on the monday for 15% less wages, but my standard of life is twice as good, and Oz announced last week it is officially out of debt and owes no country nothing, there is no state pension as such, but every employer HAS to pay 10% into a super annuation (sort of private pension). I miss Family, Friends, and social gatherings such as GTi International, but in the grand scheme of things, i think i am better off. Also parts for the S2 are cheaper!!!??? Believe it or not In UK i ordered parts an got 17.5% VAT, as a Ozzie i dont get the 17.5% added but if Customs catch it i get 10%GST so i am still under by 7.5%, Just postage stings on big things. Yesterday i got an OEM Audi Wheel bearing for 100 dollars dead (£40) compared to £55 in UK???????And i am 12,000 Miles from the Motherland--WTF is going on--Not complaining, just cannot get it
