    Tyre costs

OK Folks, just had 4 new boots fitted and thought I would find out what is the preferred tyre and average cost.

I had 205x55x16 Continentals (ContiSports?) fitted, as the car came with those and they felt OK. In 13 months I have taken them from an average of 6mm tread to around 2mm so with the abuse I give the car, I figured that was a reasonable wear rate.

I know Yoko's would have lasted about 2 weeks and Michelin Pilots about 2 decades, but who wants to drive on either blue tack or concrete?

As for the price, I'll let you guess......answer given when someone is close.

    Cheers n

Close enough...I paid £57.50 each (£230 for all 4) compared to the £418 from Kwik rip-off That was all in, i.e. no charge for disposal, Valve and balance, tea & coffee, breathing their air etc.

Which brand does the forum favour? The cheapest I have found is LINGLONG L688 for £44.85...anyone willing to risk their lives with such an interesting brand?

FYI, the average fitted price on the web for Continentals is around 79 of your earth pounds, so Kwik rip-off are up to their usual tricks.

why anyone would buy anything from kwik-fit i'll never know, they are unbelievebly expensive, even for crappy cars and tiny tyre sizes.

As for preferred boots, for performance the toyo's are excellent and the Goodyear Eagle fi's a close second. For motorway miles and good feedback through the tyre wall, i'd say a Michelin Pilot MXM HX is a good buy...i had 35000 miles out of mine and they are still in the garage with 3 mm of tread on them.

Also, for cheap money but with good grip a Kuhmo Kh11 (i think) is good value but they won't last long...about 9 months and 20k miles on my a6 tdi but boy do they grip wet or dry.

I rate the Avon hedgefinders up there with the Nippon nongrips

Running on Toyo's myself - not bad at all.

They named Avon after a river for a good reason, using their tyres is like trying to drive on one

GoodYear F1s for me, although I would definintely change to Toyos if I was changing all 4 at the same time.

Pirelli on my UR are good. Had kuhmo on my s2 when i bought and was not impressed to be honest. My s4 wheels have michelin pilots on and they grip a lot better.
