The difference between this car and the school bus, is that the school bus was an exhibition vehicle that was designed to pull a wheelstand from one end of the strip to the other - those vehicles have the engine at the rear. Most famous car of that type was the Hurst "Hemi Under Glass" Plymouth Cuda. Was meant originally to be a factory experimental but turned into an exhibition car. That started the trend and many cars followed, getting more elaborate and including, among other things, a vintage fire engine, an early Dodge pickup, a reversing Ford pickup - and a stage coach...

This car (pictured above) is a racing doorslammer and has the engine at the front, but yeah I have seen them on the bumper before! You just need to see a few copies of Hot Rod I guess...

Wheelie bar would definitely be a good idea for this machine. I remember when there was a special type of bar being tried, that pivoted off the rear of the chassis and exerted a downward load at the axle, started seeing use in the "fastest street car" competitions - but it was banned. Most people use the normal type of bar located on the axle housing

The cars that pull these big wheelies are often the ones meant to be street cars, the owners not fitting bars because of appearance or even because of rules.

But hey, you should see an Outlaw Sprint Car pulling wheelies on a victory lap!

Looking more closely, this is definitely a car running in a "road legal" category - it has a pair of "DoT approved" tyres at the rear - drag slicks by any other name, but with a tread pattern and certified road legal.

Not really in the same vein but I love this shot...

With huge respect to "Tear off heaven fotos" - this is a WoO sprint car driven by a guy called Shane Scott, at the Silver Dollar speedway - clearly very sticky!

These things have power/weight almost identical to the current F1 cars...
