(I'm sure that they won't pay out 7k 2years later, but suposing you renew your insurance and tell them that the value of the car is 5k (when it asks for it in the quotation), and then say you write it off a day later, surely they should pay you 5k, as u insured it as a 5k car???!!!??) So annoying!

And another thing to rant about, is NCB's. Everyone is affraid to loose them and concequently no1 claims on anything under about 800 quid! Such a scam dont u think? Its insurance blackmail!
everything is in their favour weather you make a claim or not. nearly every year the premium goes up. i dont know why they ask you what the car is worth because they never pay you that unless its agreed value even then its like getting blood out of a stone

No one has mentioned Direct Line, they were the only company that would insure me under £2000 when I bought mine, 24 with full NC = £800. It now only costs me £450 fully comp in the south of England. Never had to claim from them so dont know if they are difficult to deal with.

my quotes went down to £380 fully comp via confused (Admiral)

However, with mods declared, it vastly reduces the number of insurers willing to play.
Agreed on £480 Fully comp, with Chip, Wheels, Brakes, Exhaust & decat declared.
That was Chris Knott who beat Adrian Flux's renewal by ~£200!

here's a tip- put a female licence holding relative on the insurance as a named driver - that will knock a lot off the premiun guaranteed.

here's another tip - get a Cat 1 immobiiliser or tracker fitted - again will take off significant amounts on the premium.

Also say you'll limit your miles below 10k helps. Or try 6k. I've never yet had an insurerer ask for my mileage year on year and if you change annually anyway like I do that don't matter anyway!

Also remove the cr*p "extras" from premiums you don't need, like oh I don't know, a free mountain bike while your car is being crushed. There are lots of this bonus features, get rid of them. (apart from 3rd party legal protection cover)

Shop around and pitch the two best quoted companies back against eachother - you'd be amazed at how much margin they are willing to let go to get your business.

My insurance went down from 1100 (on my 1.4 clio ) to £930, going from a driveway quite estate in Cardiff, to a uni carpark in Loughborough! The roads are almost as busy as they are in Cardiff during rush hour here, I can't fathom the difference, and there have been many more cars broken into up here than I hear of round near me!

They are aware of my engine and exhaust upgrade.. otherwise car is standard.. Basically, renewal letter quoted over £600.. got on phone to AF, said I had a price of £400 from Joe Bloggs and he ""SPOKE TO HIS MANAGER"" as they always do, then came back with £374.. of course the Joe Bloggs quote wasn't 100% but who cares..

hmm - I went along that route too - but they insisted on written proof from the other insurer. Couldn't be bothered with all that so went elsewhere. Obviously you sound far more trustworthy than myself!!

If you guys don't use your S2s as daily drivers, you may want to try these guys:

They are the UK affliate for Hagerty Collector Car Insurance in the States.

I have my Coupe insured with the USA company. It is listed with them as an Exotic. There is a limit on Mileage, I have mine for less than 5,000 miles a year. I have full coverage, and an agreed to value of $25,000 USD . I have had my 914 insured with them for a number of years.

I sent them a list of all modification done to the car, and I mean every little thing I have done. Left nothing out. They had no problem, with the Euro body parts, engine mods, transmission change, euro hubs, brakes, and on and on.

I don't know what they are offering in the UK, but may not hurt to check it out.

I went with them, because they were the only ones who would not give me the run around on an agreed value.

By the way, costs me less than $600 USD a year.

                            Greg W.
They can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel.

                              Greenlight Insurance is another option.
