I couldn't agree more !! All I was trying to say is that the M3 is a great car and that it is fair competition to the RS4. But saying that here was going to attract flak, but hey, I can take it with a big wide grin !

What is the main purpose of a road car?

My view (awaiting incoming ) is that it should allow you to get to where ever you are going and still be alive. If I had to drive to Italy say, I would pick up the keys to the 4WD Audi. It would allow me to have some fun on the mountain roads but I would be more sure of staying on the road than if I took the M3. Ok so i may not be able to go sideways around the many hairpins but this may stop me ending up in stacking into a Fiat and wiping out my trip and £50k of car.

Both cars are the top end of production road cars no question but I enoy living (chance to drive for longer) so I would choose the Audi. Plus I'm not a M3 banker!

                my argument is...

Ok, to drive to italy, u need snow tyres, but your not going to have snow tyres on ur car all year round for that 1 day a year are you?

so excluding the 1 day a year you want to drive to italy, the rest you drive to work, where you know every bend, every bump, and every curve in the road. so you can safely drift to work

and that 1 day a year u want to go to italy just take it easy bmw's are safe as long as you dont full throttle around a bend

Snow tires????? Not the route I know.

I do accept that most don't drive to other countries every day and that most just drive to work but not bloody sideways.

My enjoyment of driving is to get from A to B quickly. Speak to any proffessional driver and they will tell you that as soon as you start to go sideways you are loosing speed and momentum hence failing. Yeh drifting is fun on a track but please stay in line on the the road.

Quattro's can drift too you know

Snow tyres was just used as an example.

The bottom line is, if your going to be driving from A to B fastest possible, you will be driving dangerously anyway which means even in your quattro its possible to understeer and "ending up in stacking into a Fiat and wiping out my trip and £50k of car."

Just because one car looses grip faster than the other, dosnt mean your cant race it does it ?

I love Quattro and RWD cars, you cant compare them as they are totally different and both are great in their own right.
