    Clutch fitted price

    Hi

I've just been quotet a price of £500 all in to have my clutch replaced on my 1994 ABY, my question is, is this a good price to pay ?

Also can anyone tell me if a 1990 coupe drivers side window motor is the same as the 1994 S2 or at the very least, will it be any good to me and also how much would I be looking to pay for one ?

Thanx in advance for any help.

If that is including the materials then about right. Ask them how they are going to tackle the job as if there are certain things that are worth replacing while you are in there.

Part number for the motor is the same for both models (895 959 802 A) so that won't be a problem, although I'd prefer to replace a used part with something a little newer myself.

As for price, that depends on the breaker, some may take 20 pounds, others will want upto 50. Wouldn't you be better trying to strip down and service your existing one first?

I'd say that a fair price for the clutch and fitting, others may disagree.

      HTH,
      Rob.

I got a new motor from Vag parts, wasnt as expensive as I thought and as Rob mentioned you might want to replace it with something newer than 16 year old motor.

Id probably pay £50 just not to have to strip that door down again, adjusting is a mofo.

Sorry for the hijack, but I'm having my clutch and flywheel replaced by MRC in July... what are the other things worth replacing at the same time?

Engine/gearbox mounts (whichever they take out)
            Rear crank oil seal
            Clutch slave cylinder

At the very least, admitedly none of these items may need changing but while you are in there it saves an awful lot of time if they fail after you have put it all back.

I would also suggest the flexi between the master and slave as these perish over time and it is easier while in there also.

Thanks Corey, I'll get these done also.

How much would it cost to replace the clutch with the above items replaced too?

Rob, I got mine changed by Tom about 18 months ago and the price was good, included changing the g/box mounts, rear crank oil seal etc, sure it was less than £400 but i did supply all the parts....

                      Thanks David.

So you paid roughly under £400 for labour and supplied the parts yourself? Can you remember how much the parts cost you?

                      Sorry for all the questions!

If I am reading it correctly, Euan paid £500 all in?

just dug the receipt out, total was £402 inc vat and involved:

remove gearbox, replace clutch pressure plate, friction plate, release bearing, renew crankshaft rear oil seal, spigot bearing, change g/box mountings, box oil, replace a leaking water hose, replace fuel filter.

I supplied clutch stuff and g/box mounts, rear oil seal. Everything else supplied by the garage. Clutch stuff was about £160 inc from vagparts IIRC.
