Could not agree more! There have been some horriffic accidents in the past 12 years but no fatal accidents. Every time they make the tyres narrower or reduce the engine size, we moan - watching this video quickly reminds you why they try to slow the cars down....Originally posted by CoreyAll of their lives taken whilst doing what they lived for and each and everyone of them forced the sport they loved for to become a safe event.

That's hard to watch. Thankfully (God willing) it's a bygone era...

There should be a warning attached to that post, its was quite upsetting in places. Watching that guy trying to get the driver out of the burning car was just horrible to watch.91CQ20v - Gone to a new home

Mcandmar, I think it was fair to say that a video featuring the untimely and very sad deaths of racing drivers from the past to the present (almost) was bound to feature some unpalatable imagery. The Tom Pryce accident is still one of the most bizarre and unnecessary deaths (where the marshal is struck when running across the track).
Sadly perhaps, this video doesn't remember some of the great names who were also involved in F1/GP racing that perished elsewhere than at a GP event - Jim Clark (killed in 1968 in an F2 race in Hockenheim), Bruce McLaren (killed while testing his Can-Am car at Goodwood in 1970), Elio De Angelis (killed while testing at Paul Ricard in 1986), and even more recently Michele Alboreto (killed while testing his Audi R8 at Lausitzring in 2001 - lest we forget that racing an open cockpit car is still dangerous to this day).
Furthermore there have been several other drivers at the peak of motorsport killed more recently than Senna - for example, Jeff Krosnof (CART champ car driver killed in 1996), Greg Moore (killed in his champ car at California Speedway in 1999), Gonzalo Rodriguez (who I knew in F3, killed at Laguna Seca while driving for Penske in 1999).
I have also personally known two other drivers killed in the pursuit of their racing dreams: Takashi Yokoyama ("Taka", killed at Fuji in a horrible F3 accident) and Shingo Tachi, killed while testing his JGTC Supra (the only closed car fatality I have listed here).
The fact is, motor sport is still very dangerous, and I have seen enough near misses to know that there is real danger now, as there always has been. Thankfully the risk is much smaller than in those darker days featured on the video.

Out of all those, sad though they all are, the Senna crash still and always will send shivers down my spine as I have always thought that something was amiss. Hey ho.
As said before they are all heros in their own right, where would the world of motorsport be without these people who risked their lives doing what they loved and unfortunatley paid the ultimate price. If only they were alive today.........Dark Grey Avant
