I know what your saying by trying to bring the best out the team but look at in results. We have won 1 world cup so something is wrong. Obviously i would not want a load of C.Ronaldos but i think we need to find a blend of coaching and encouraging that little something different. As i say from my previous experience there is far to much pressure on our kids at youth level not all but a lot and i think this needs to be looked at.
Ah now i understand your talking youth level!

In that case i totally agree with you, my apologies as at youth self expression is normally coached out a player.

i'm watching my 9 year old cousin at the moment (chip of the old block another left winger ) and i can't believe the pressure the kids are under to get results rather than play, enjoy and improve.

(he's wanted by Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Brom )

I'm a F.A qualified coach Stevieyid, i used to coach under 11 football teams but didn't really enjoy it as the pressure from parents on kids for result these days is something else.

Now just run a saturday league team for fun.

Agree totally with u. When i was young and playing at a high level not trying to be flash or anything i was scared to try anything that i had not been told to do because the pressure was so great. Also seen a great player become completly destroyed as a person and a player because of the pressure. Watching Italy last night is exactly what i think a team should pley like. Strong, organised but they also have that little something different thats what England lack. Good luck to your cousin hope he makes it

in england when you're a kid the coaches tell you if in doubt in defence hoof the ball out, instead of encouraging them to play with confidence and pass the ball out .that carries on all the way through to senior level where most of these so called superstars can,t pass the ball under pressure they seem to be scared of the ball .

Hi mate id ont agree with tis to be honest. I was always told by the coaches to play out of defence i.e. full backs push on centre halves split and get the ball off the keeper. The reason i think at the international level we play long ball alot is because when we play teams like Trinidad and Paraguay they sit behind the ball and we cant break them down so the only option is hit it long. When teams come at us thats when we play a bit more, thats why play better against the better sides because they believe they can win as much as we do.

if that is so how come other top teams don't play long ball but they still seem to break down defensive teams and yet still win major tournaments .look at last european championships england v france after england took the lead they couldn't keep the ball kept kicking it out where french players kept coming at them and eventually scored 2 in last couple of minutes .
thats what will always let england down unless they learn to keep the ball
