    Why I hate garages!!

I replaced both the track rod ends and the adjusters on my 3B Coupe on Friday so I needed to get the tracking re-set, this is how it went:-

Garage 1 : Sorry mate, can’t do that car.
Garage 2 : We don’t do Audi’s here, you’ll have to take it to our other branch, which is on the other side of town.
Garage 3 : Yes we can do it but not until next Wednsday ( this was Sat am ), we’ll need it for 2 hours and it will be £50 +VAT.
Garage 4 : Yes we can do it this morning, no need to book it in, we’ll do it whilst you wait, £35 +VAT

So I turn up at garage 4 about 45min later only to be told I’ll have to book it in for Monday as it takes about 1 ½ hours. About ½ mile down the road from garage 4 is garage 5 , so I call in there on my way home, they can check it now, but he warns me that if it needs adjusting I may have to bring it back as these cars are a nightmare to adjust. I tell him that the adjusters and track rod ends are all new and covered in grease so there should be no problem. I’m sure they put the YTS lad on the job because I had to stand under the car with him and tell him how the adjusters worked, but 15mins later and a slight adjustment of about 1° and the job is done, £23.50.

Know your pain, i had a stand up argument with a guy one day who swore blind you cant adjust the tracking or camber on the rear of the car. Ended up having to show the muppet how to do it The best was "camber dosent matter, no point in adjusting that"

Yes indeed - sounds very familiar - feckin schonky 'quick fit' style garages do my head in. They left lock nuts loose on one side of mine last year. Adjusted the damn thing better by feel than they could with the alignment rig.

If you want this done right - best take it to a good Audi dealership - they are suitably trained and equipped for a true 4-wheel alignment. Aint cheap tho...

Guess that makes me lucky, I have a garage local to my office that does 4-wheel tracking, know what a pain in he **** Audi's are to do, but still charge the same as they would for any other car, they charge for the check, and then for adjustment front and adjustment rear, and I've never had any problems with them. I do feel a bit guilty when they spend two hours loosening all the front off on my Audi and still charge the same as the guy in the Ford Ka that they do in 10 minutes

I also use my local Audi dealership to perform all my alignments, I always make sure the cars are free'd off for them.
I charge what they charge me £75+VAT.
As in my mind half the battle is won because they have all the correct specifications and equipment, you just hope they can use it. I have not had a bad car back from them.

                      Garages...?

I asked for a full service at the only Audi stealership in my area (I am in Romania) , including cambelt, etc...
To which I was asked, "would you like the oil changed as well?"
Suffice to say, I said, no thanks, and no service either....
I found a very new small garage, who spent ages working on it, with me holding things and generally sticking my nose in making sure they were doing the right thing...
All was perfect, charged me £250, including parts, NSF wheel bearing and anti roll bar link rods.
I went back the following day, as they had a new 4 wheel alignment machine... They spent 7 hours, as all bolts were seized, tie rods very very seized (surprse, surprise)
Computer printout before and after, correct model, correct alignment, all for...wait for it...

                      £20

The one good thing about living in a place like this, labour is cheap...just very hard to find anyone who is willing to either learn about or work on anything except a 1970 Renault 12
Anyway, its perfect now, had 2 tyres fitted too (rubber v expensive here), drives like it should...

(Oh, and beer is about 20 pence a litre, Vodka around the same...)
Honda CBR 1100XX Blackbird Turbo....undergoing major changes.....
S2 Coupe... bit easier off the line...
'03 ZX12-R daily hack.... lots of nice bolt ons...

I was at the garage with the s4, there was all over the sump, turned out the previous mechanic didn't tighten the sump plug properly... what is it with these people?
